- decimate - as the etymology indicates, it doesn't actually mean wiping out completely, merely killing one in every ten.

- husband - has nothing to do with marriage, simply means "homeowner."
- gay - originally meant "lighthearted," "joyful," "bright and showy," now somehow means homosexual
- demagogue - once meant "a popular leader," now means a fear-mongering/pandering politician
