Terrible:
- I only see my PI 2x/year
- People can be annoyed because of their experiment not going well, but you have to try not to take it personally even though you're not having a good day either(this type of snippiness = cause of MOST CONFLICTS)
- GROUP MEETINGS, i.e. the pressure to get shit done and impress everyone
- Cumes, i.e. feeling dumb
- Grades, i.e. feeling dumb
- Teaching
- Not the students per se, just the time, which I could spend doing...literally anything else
- Luckily my PI is loaded and I only need to teach for one year, hurrah
- Interacting with professors you don't know well, i.e. dick professors sometimes
- First year when your schedule fits around other stuff (classes, teaching, etc) and not around your own choosing
- IT'S REALLY HOT AND HUMID IN TEXAS COMPARED TO CALIFORNIA OKAY
Great:
- Camaraderie amongst the group and amongst chemistry 2015 first-years
- Almost everybody is really kind people in the group
- People are jazzed about the same shit you are jazzed about (i.e. chemistry), and not afraid to have some bants about it
- You get you own desk and your own hood with half a bench, i.e. personal space
- Air conditioning
- Food in walkable distance
- PI doesn't monitor our time and even allows us to take a month off per year
