are there any common themes, colors, or items throughout your story? what do they symbolize?

light vs dark, holy vs unholy, order vs disorder

  • light as a corrupting horror, or as a source of warmth and life. pale and white like sun-bleached bone; like sunlight sharpened and shrilled off glass, so pure that the only thing it does when it comes into contact with living flesh is smolder.
  • light that illuminates all, light that you cannot escape, jagged and glass-cut and smothering, strangling every last drop of moisture to mist. light that does nothing but burn, baked into the earth and blister-hot beneath your feet; blazing, blinding, devouring the world whole.
  • celestial fire that burns cleanly, completely, perfectly: golden and furious like star-flame and lightning, heaven-kissed and angel-forged. there is no smoke to speak of, only the singed halo of divinity, the serrated glory-gleam of paradise.
  • chthonic fire drowned in scorch-shimmer and shadow; not fire, in truth, but just as hungry. molten, and capable of moving continents.
  • earthly fire that burns imperfectly, incompletely: smoke billows out in acrid clouds, a shifting, searing churn of soot. when the ashen veil descends over mortals, it is poisonous enough to kill them. earthly fire, impure and imperfect, the product of only the powers of the mortal realm, eternal and ever-changing: so deadly in its impurities that it is enough to poison the night king himself if wielded with a spark of angel-fire, a wisp of demon-shadow.
  • darkness falls over the hills in shivers of moonlight: frostbitten, incandescent. stars like teardrops across the velvet-icy sky, seared in silver as the desert comes alive.
  • darkness that is death, or salvation. the heat scorches and shimmers, slithers and simmers, chokes the rain into mist. there is no life here in the cinder-struck gaze of the sun, without the darkness.
