Lesson 3: Basic phrases to use when you want to reply your idol’s SNS posts I usually see people replying things like “WHAT” or “TRANSLATE PLEASE” or “WRITE IN ENGLISH” on idols’ tweets. Firstly, I would like to say that they’re Koreans so obviously they would type in their native language, Korean. They are not obliged to translate or tweet in English just because you don’t understand. While the idols are trying their best to learn English, we as fans, should do the same for them as well. Although it may be a tiring and difficult process, this is one way to show that we care for them as fans!

Here are some simple phrases to reply to their tweets and show your concern for them:

After a day of work / it’s night time and you want to say something to them:
- 오빠들 / 오빠 / 수고했어요 = Oppas / oppa / you’ve worked hard [su-go-haet-sor-yo]
- 굿밤 / 굿나잇 = Good night (**밤 pronounced as baaam, means night in korean) / good night (**나잇 pronounced as na-eet is hangul way of writing ‘night’)
- 잘자요 = Sleep well [jal-ja-yo]
- 집에 가서 쉬어요 = Go home and rest [jeep-ae ga-sor shwee-or-yo]
- 피곤해 보여요 = You look tired [pee-gon-hae bo-your-yo]
- 이젠 자야 겠어요 = Time to sleep now [ee-jen ja-ya gett-or-yo]
- 졸려요? Are you tired? [jol-lyeo-yo]
- 오빠 일찍 자세요 = Oppa sleep earlier
To begin a new day:
- 오늘도 화이팅 = Fighting today as well [oh-neul=do fighting]
- 좋은 아침이에요 오빠 = It’s a good morning oppa [cheo-eun ah-chim-ee-yea-yo oppa]
- 힘내세요 = Have strength [heeem-nae-sae-yo]
- 굿모닝 = Good morning (**모닝 is pronounced as mon-ning so it’s the hangul way of writing ‘morning’)
- 어제 잘 잤어요? = Did you sleep well last night? [or-jen jal jatt-or-yo]
- 오늘 컨디션어때요? = How’s your condition today? [oh-neul kon-di-sheon or-ddae yo]
- 좋은 하루 되세요 = Have a nice day
When your idol does something dumb (like a derp picture or video and you just want to laugh at them):
- 불쌍해요 = Poor thing [bul-ssang-hae-yo]
- 창피해요 = So embarrassing [chang-pee-hae-yo]
- 왜그래요 = Why are you being like that?
- ㅋㅋㅋ / ㅎㅎㅎ = laughing
- 헐 / 오마이갓 = Omg
- 이거 무슨소리에요 = What the heck
- 하지마세요 = Don’t
- 와 = Wow
- 대박 = Daebak = Expression for wow
- 어떡해요 = What to do
When your idol posts something cute / cool:
- 잘 생겼어요 = You’re handsome (literally means good looks)
- 에뻐요 = Pretty
- 귀여워요 = Cute
- 좋아요 = Like it
- 심콩해요 = Heart attack
- 설레요 = Heart fluttering
- 멋았어요 = Cool
- 오빠 짱이에요 = Oppa is the best
- 오빠 헤어스타일 정말 멋져요 = Your hairstyle is nice
- 카리스마 덩어리세요! = You’re charismatic
- 저 오빠한테 반하겠어요 = I’ll falling for oppa
하늘에서 떨어졌을 때 아팠어요? = Did it hurt when you fall from heaven? Loving reminders for them:
- 감기 조심하세요! = Don’t catch a cold [gam-gi jo-sheem-ha-sae-yo]
- 아프지마세요 = Don’t get sick [ah-peu-ji-ma-sae-yo]
- 조심해요 = Be careful [jo-sheem-hae-yo]
- 밥먹었어요? = Have you eaten?
- 밥을 놓치지 마세요 = Don’t miss your meals
- 식사 거르지 마세요 = Don’t skip your meals [sheek-sa gor-reu-ji ma-sae-yo]
- 법굶지마세요 = Don’t starve
- 오빠 맛있는거 많이 먹어요 = Eat a lot of delicious food oppa
When you want to say loving words to them to cheer them up:
- 걱정 마세요 = Don’t worry
- 보고싶어요 =
- 오빠는 최고이다! = Oppa is the best
- 힘내세요! 우리가 있아나요 = Have strength! We are right here [heem-nae-sae-yo oo-ri-ga it-jan-na-yo]
- 괜찮아요? = Are you okay? [kwen-chan-na-yo]
- 늘 좋은 일들만 가득 하세요 = Wishing you the best always
- 우리 항상 네 곁에 있을게요 = We’re always be by your side [oo-ri hang-sang nee kyeot-tae eet-eul-gae]
- 오빠의 가장 큰 팬이랍니다 = I’m a big fan
- 항상 응원할게요! = Always supporting you!
- 팬들은 여전히 오빠가 최고라고 생각해요 = The fans still think that oppa is the best
- 여기서 꼭 기다리고 있을테니까 걱정 마세요 = I’ll be waiting here so don’t worry
- 오빠의 노래 진짜 좋아요 = this song is great
- 태어나 줘서 고마워요 = Thank you for being born
- 항상 좋은 음악을 줘서 감사합니다 = Thanks for always making good music
- 오빠는 저한테 완벽해요 = Oppa is perfect to me
