- Emma is trying extremely hard to convince Harriet that Mr. Martin is an unfit suitor for her. Emma thinks that because Mr. Martin is a farmer, he is socially beneath the girls. She is sure that Mr. Elton would be a much better match. Emma insists that Mr. Elton is already in love with Harriet. Now, Emma is a self-proclaimed expert matchmaker, and Harriet is very gullible and idolizes Emma. With that being said, I predict that Harriet will, reluctantly, follow Emma's advice. I also don't think the match will end according to Emma's plan. I wouldn't be surprised if this arrangement causes deep aggravation and stress on both girl's parts.
