What makes me happy: Sleeping. Good Italian desserts. Dry humor. Babies. Yarn. Getting my hair cut. The sound of fingers sliding along the strings of a guitar between chords. Cats stretching. Learning new things. Spooning. Coffee from Caribou. Taking a shower after a good workout. Road trips. Target. Pajamas. Watching the leaves change colors. Homemade Chinese dumplings. Freshly washed sheets. Ski...

  • What is your idea of perfect happiness? Feeling peace and contentment in all parts of my life—physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual.
  • What is your greatest fear? Drowning
  • What historical figure do you most identify with? Even though I'm not Christian, I would probably say Mother Teresa. Like her, I am usually in a caregiving role, whether at work or at home.
  • Which living person do you most admire? Maya Angelou! I wanna be her.
  • What is the trait you most deplore in yourself? Insecurity.
  • What is the trait you most deplore in others? Arrogance.
  • What is your greatest extravagance? Probably food: I believe in eating well, and good food is usually much more expensive than bad.
  • On what occasion do you lie? I lie mostly when I don't want to hurt someone's feelings.
  • What do you dislike most about your appearance? My thighs. Ugggh.
  • When and where were you happiest? I don't know that I could pick any one thing. I would say that there have been several occasions where I have felt really connected to someone—right now the person who comes to mind his Harry, but there have been other friends/lovers—but I think I feel happiest when I feel really connected to someone.
  • If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be? I would be more confident. I think I come across as much more confident than I am, and I wish my inner feelings were congruent with my outer appearance.
  • If you could change one thing about your family what would it be? I wish my parents weren't so rigid. They have difficulties accepting change or trying to do things a different way.
  • What do you consider your greatest achievement? Up to this point, I think my greatest achievement is getting into my doctoral program.
  • If you died and came back as a person or thing what do you think it would be? I think I would like to be reborn as a koala bear—they've got a pretty cool life.
  • What is your most treasured possession? The little pillow my mom cross-stitched for me.
  • What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery? Isolation. I think not feeling connected to other human being is perhaps the most miserable feeling there is.
  • Who are your heroes in real life? This is a tricky question—it's one I've been asked before and have difficulties answering. I look up to many people for many different reasons: Vicki for having the ability to go go go, Katie for her calmness, my dad and stepdad for their knowledge, my mom for her selflessness, Amanda for her grace, Amy for her class.
  • What is it that you most dislike? Those who feel superior and entitled.
  • How would you like to die? I'm probably like most: painlessly and unexpectedly, while I sleep. Preferable having had a great dinner with friends and family the night before.
  • What is your motto? "Freedom is the courage to risk the unforeseeable future." ~Karl Rahner

Weirdly, it says I am most like Little Richard (really?!?!) and Joan Didion (wooooo!)
