• the lunar sea spire.

the lunar sea spire is associated with blue diamond, considering that pink diamond's pearl is able to remember it without being treated with decorum and it is saturated in her color. the lunar sea spire is filled with statues with multiple pairs of arms, a trait unique to fusions (as shown in the 'fusion' short). pearl even points out one such statue.

the lunar sea spire is supposedly kept intact with the moon goddess statue at the apex of the spire, but even whilst the statue is missing, it doesn't sink into the sea. it makes sense, then, that at the base there could be an ocean goddess statue (after all, the moon is only half of the spire--if there was only one statue, shouldn't it cover both aspects of the lunar sea spire?).

we see a lapis with a chest gem in 'the answer,' and yellow diamond seems to have some thoughts on what lapises do in 'what's the use of feeling (blue)?'. if lapis is one-of-a-kind, like i'm asserting, why is there more than one lapis lazuli? let's explore.

we know from pink that the presence of a diamond alone results in a great deal of fanfare, and that their work is more typically done from a distance (as hers is in the moon base). extending this to blue, it certainly makes sense that her leadership would come first from afar. but, like pink, she is bound to want to see her colonies personally from time to time. how can she fulfill this desire, without pink seeing her as a hypocrite?

she could shapeshift, but pink seems assured that blue and yellow would not be able to guess that she'd done that. why not simply unfuse into two completely differe...

  • lapis says some curious things in mirror gem.

'did you even wonder who i used to be?', paired with lapis announcing her name as if it's a weapon, her general demeanor, her unwillingness to talk about her past, *and* the fact that no one else seems to recognize her or be able to predict her abilities, suggests that there is something about lapis that we do not know yet—something that she is intentionally keeping hidden.

it's worth noting that the way lapis phrases her callouts—'did you even wonder who i used to be? i'm lapis lazuli'—implies that whoever she was, she's not that person anymore; she's lapis lazuli now. this echoes her later sentiment in chille tid ('we're malachite now'), where we see there's a precedent of lapis identifying only as a fusion.

  • i am aware that this theory is partially to completely sunk as of canon present, depending on if you'll suspend your disbelief and believe blue diamond as we've been seeing her lately is a regent.

i still find it compelling, and it has informed a lot of things about my characterization of lapis. if you disagree, that's okay! i'm happy to discuss, but i don't want to fight.

  • lapis probably isn't going to tell your character who she is.

she's kept this secret for thousands of years, and she's a master of misdirection. it might come out to the right person at the right time, but it probably won't. if you want your character to know or to find out, please contact me ooc beforehand!
