i wasn't so convinced about this with the cover of the album and the lead single but she proved me wrong once again. i'm glad she did.
- the prologue
- a great introduction
- the organ in the first half of the song sets such a mood and a vibe
- the production in this obviously means something: it's like she's telling you all about her beautiful land and her desire to leave it, yet she wants to stay (probably because of her lover ???), and that's why her voice trembles so much.
- the "hands so bloody, tastes like honey // i'm finding it hard to leave" lines always get to me like ??? i don't know what's up with that
- 100 letters
- i've got so much to say about this song
- first off: i get that the pre-chorus and the chorus are catchy but i saw people saying that this could be a good single ??? i'm not sure that i agree
- i kinda like how she breaks it but right before she starts the chorus (in production wise). the transition back into the second verse kind of,,, didn't get me tho
- i'm not entirely sure i like the pre-chorus to even begin with
- i find it so annoying that the structure of this doesn't have a bridge 'cause it usually is my favourite part in songs and boom bitch there's nothing here
- the second verse might have my favourite lyrics of this song. just so pretty, and i can relate
- not entirely sure of the instrumenral as well, but it's certainly something else, something different
- eyes closed
- the production in the beggining and in the end (the little sounds, wich are also spread throughout the whole song) kind of remind me of a call, like, when you have a secret call sound with someone ??? you know what i mean ??? like they were hiding ??? wich is completely cool to follow the storyline
- there's also little sounds in the chorus that remind me of a thunderstorm: yes. i love them.
- the stripped down version of this is just something beyond prettiness.
- the "my lover, my liar" lyrics are my favourites, so glorious
- i really like the rhythm of the guitar in this, she should've done it like that without the synthezisers sound if you will
- the bridge sounds,,,, kinda so hopeless,,,, no pun intended
- heaven in hiding
- again with that little thunderstorm sound in the back,,, is a storm forming in the story? is something big approaching?
- i really like how this and angel on fire share the same instrument and the same instrumental, i don't know what that little carousel-like line is, but i adore it
- my first thought on this song was: this is so bisexual ffs lmao
- the way she picks it up on the chorus is my favourite thing,i can really feel that "a crimson headache, aching blush" line for some reason and it feels like it's got a deeper meaning
- the vocals are good, i really like (once again) the way she plays with her voice when the chorus comes around
- really wished this would've a better bridge than the 'oh's but they still work
- alone
- i'm convinced that this song is placed here for some particular reason and i feel like it's an interlude to the next part of the album for some reason ?? the vibe of this one is so different from the previous tracks, maybe that's why
- she really did that oh my god this is my favourite song in the album. the vibe, the lyrics, the composition, the production, all together: a masterpiece.
- the bridge is golden this entire song is golden. so laid back from the rest of the album, and so damn good. she should try going for this sound more often
- the piano, the snap of the fingers, the trumpet and the guitar are such a nice combination, definitely got me into such a good mood
- her voice and the way she breaks it down in the pre-chorus yasss
- i really like how smooth the transitions are, i'm on love with this song
- now or never
- what really stresses me out about this song it's that it literally never changes like it's kinda basic ??? that's why i'm not intl it that much: it remains the same for the wole thing, there's barely a change in the chorus (one more layer of synthesizer) but that's it !!! not change in the ryhthm, not even in the bridge,,, smh
- despite that, i enjoy the way she makes her singing kind of get a flow, as if she was kind of rapping (but not really)
- i catched the reference to badlands on the chorus she wanted that one to really stick out. also, the walls could talk reference in one of the verses
- apart from being basic, it still is kinda repetitive and catchy as well, and i think that that's why it made it a popular single
- i think she could've gone with something else but oh well the video was still good tho
- sorry
- this one right here always makes me emotional and it really got to me the first time i heard it
- i feel like it could apply in so many stances of my life, except for the love aspect lmao how ironic. still, i've been on both sides of that spectrum and i feel like this song capturates that feeling really good. she did a great job!
- the instrumental is so laid back and the piano sounds beautiful, she wants you to listen really carefully to what she has to say and get across an important message
- the little 'oh's as a post-chorus broke my heart :(
- i love the lines "but i still know your birthday // and your mother's favourite song" 'cause it really gives me a poetry-like impression. it really is, and i adore those lyrics because they are kinda random facts that are stuck with her forever (wich i can relate to)
- her voice sounds beautiful and sincere, this is her down to her core and i adore it. i really hope she stops feeling that way, though
- good mourning
- call me crazy but this song screams gasoline and control, in my opinion. it's like the child of both of them. you can hear those little sounds in the instrumental, they're basically the same. i'd love to knoe if she somehow sampled them
- the moon verse is my favourite thing, i think that she had tweeted it before and it's one of the big columns of her new concept _(and you all also know that i'm a sucker for this kind of space-related lyrics). lovely poetry in the middle of the song
- another interlude, the mosy notorious, and this one is somehow really connected to the next two songs, as if the three ones where part of one big song. i feel like there's something more deep to it but i can't figure out what
- more references to her past songs,,, i'd love to go back and analyse all of it but i doubt i'd get in the mood for that
- lie (feat. quavo)
- could literally be my favourite if quavo wasn't in it. still, it remains my third favourite
- he literally ruined the song lmao
- the lyrics are perfect and the instrumental is just too good, i love that piano and i adore how it's connected frol the little musical box from good mourning
- when she sings the 'i, i, i's, that's pure indecision. she doesn't wanna let her partner go, she doesn't wanna stop being loved, so she begs and breaks, giving in so that they don't have to fight no more
- the live version of this that's on her channel is gorgeous, the studio version should be like that one
- it's kinda short though :(
- if this song were a colour, it would totally be red. this is that part of the album: the anger, the passion, the realization of it all
- i adore the way that she sings the first verse and how different it is from the chorus, way to pull of two moods and two vibes
- walls could talk
- talk about SHORT masterpieces, this is my second favourite. wish it would be longer, but i think it would end up being too repetitive so i'm happy it stays this way
- thay drop though i was so not expecting it! i love the way the violin breaks right before the chorus, it kind of makes me so so so excited
- first of all: the use of strings, the violins in this, totally unexpected and almost wrong. it feels so wrong that they sound so good, this song is amazing. it literally blew my mind, i still can't believe it
- the lyrics are kind of savage and amazing, i adore them and i adore the way that she tells that story. it reminds me of a part of (ugh) 50 shades of grey (ugh x2). moving on
- the way she changes it up with that one more layer in the pre-chorus is great, it gives a different feeling when you get into the chorus
- again, the transitions in this one are really smooth and amazing, this song has a special place in my heart
- from lyrics, to production, to the instrumental, the composition and the way she delivers it out, i think that it's one of the best songs of her, fight me
- bad at love
- this kind of gives me a good badlands impression from the intro, 'cause her first album used to be all about intros and outros, i just realized she kind of dropped that here a little bit
- not my favourite but catchy, it always gets stuck in my head, specially right after walls could talk. they both have that catchy vibe
- i love the little piano in the background of this, it really fits the pre-chorus (probably my favourite part of the song)
- the way she delivers the story !!!! the bisexual story !!! i really like it. she's got too many stories for herself and loves to tell me vaguely, that leaves me wanting to know more about it (even though you know she'll close up if you ask her)
- the "i'm bad at love" line is kind of her war cry, if you will. she screams it at the top of her lungs to make sure that everyone knows it
- maybe could be a single ??? idek
- don't play
- this also has a lot of badland influences in my opinion, but more hfk-like lyrics. either way, it's a bop
- i was totally not expecting that drop, and was totally into it when the pre-chorus was going on. the lyrics ain't that deep but the song is more meant to bop
- i swear i could hear her hipcup in the chorus, call me crazy
- i don't think i could chose one part of this song to be my favourite, since i think that it's got a pretty complicated production, but if i had to choose, it would be the littles "women don't play no games", such a great adition! i don't think i would've liked the song as much as i do if it didn't have that
- i like the way it breaks down in different parts, it shows (again) a complex production
- MOTHERFUCKER, DON'T PLAY WITH ME
- this must be really lit live, my ass wishes to watch it
- strangers (feat. lauren jauregui)
- i honestly didn't know what to expect from this duo but i wouldn't have ever guessed it would be something like this. i wasn't entirely sure wheter i liked it or no and now it grew on me
- it's a good pop song, kind of catchy and with //such\\ a halsey sound to it, i don't know why
- i feel like it's got a 90s vibe i'm kind of aware of but i'm probably wrong 'cause i don't know shit about the 90s sound so i should probably just shut up
- their vocals work together really nicely since ashley's voice is more raspy and hurt, while lauren's is more soft and sorry. don't know if i'd love another duet from them, though. still, it's a good collab, definitely better than quavo and shares the spot with cashmere cat
- the intro and the outro are so,,, predictable,,, in musical video-wise, like, you KNOW that this song will be a single and that it will have a video from the intro and outro
- i find the instrumental kind of interesting but again kind of repetitive, i don't really understand the dynamic but i like it. it's a good song
- angel on fire
- probably my favourite lyrics in the album, but let's break it down
- this and heaven in hiding, kind of share a little line of instrumental. i think that the connection is that the latter talks about how you should be able to fall in love quickly, be reckless and live without regrets, while the former talk about the anxiety that living in this way can bring. she can't do it anymore, so she's expulsed from heaven (???) and she's on fire
- this still kind of relates to devil in me but i'll get to that in a second
- it's kind of funny how in thr cover, the guy's the one who got the wings, as if the picture had been taken after she finished the album, and he hadn't fallen with her. just a thought
- coming back go the lyrics, i can kind of relate to them 'cause who doesn't ever feel that way ??? but also because i really like how she took the whole //angel\\ metaphor and kind of built it up from there
- talk about build-ups, the ones in here illustrate PERFECTLY what it's like to be feeling this way, so props to the production for making it that way. it makes it a lot more personal and amazing, in my opinion
- the little arp in the instrumental really gets me aw man this song is beautiful and i think that it's a little underrated
- devil in me
- kind of remimds me of ashton ??? i don't know why, but it's there, i said it, whoops
- it breaks into drums in the chorus just like angel on fire, wich i think that is beautiful. she keeps on repeating herself 'cause she has to get the message across her own head
- she has already fallen (??? again) from heaven so she has no other option than to surrender to the devil, since she fails and lets down everyone in the last song. still, he tells her to eat her feelings and kind of "woman up", not allowing her to be senditive and that makes her really mad
- the verses are kind of short and repetitive (wich i absolutely love in this song) because of the wanting-to-get-the-message-across thingy again. if she keeps it that way, she will be understood quickly
- i can totally picture her standing in front of the crowd like she did with is there somewhere when i listen to the bridge of this song, and i hope that she does that
- i love the ryhthm and the instrumental of it, i wouldn't consider listening to this and angel on fire without each other. they complement
- hopeless (feat. cashmere cat)
- i could listen to the 'oh's all day, they've kind of become like a drug to me and i mean it. they remind me of a cat (??) and also of shakira's voice like WHAT ??? props to the production team for this bop and also to cashmere cat who probably also produced this
- i wasn't sure about how to feel about the song but i've grown to love it, it's always stuck in my head and it doesn't bother me
- she kind of realizes that his toxic behaviour is killing her but still hopes that he'll change and treat her right :( i hope that she has let go of that useless piece of crap, nobody deserves to be in that kind of relationship
- such a bop !!! i really think that they outdid themselves with the production in this, even though i can't relate to the lyrics and the composition and instrumental are kind of mimnimalistic compared to others in the album
- a good song to close the album. sums it up pretty well, and it's such an experience
i kind of wanna say that angel on fire is also competing with alone to be my favourite in this, but i don't even know. maybe someday i'll actually realize what my favourites are in this. overall, she outdid herself and delivered a totally different part of her creative side, wich is really cool. i loved every bloody second of the album, and the way it was produced and written. you can tell that she had a lot of influence, as usual, in her music and everything related to it.
- lyrics: you can still see traces and influences from badlands, and i'm pretty sure that you'll be able to see them in the next albums. she has a notable love for poetry, and i like (as i said) the little references she puts here and there, little details. i'd love to read whatever she writes, i find her ideas kind of interesting.
- fav lyrics: angel in fire and alone
- production: definitely really good in this album, she outdid herself in that matter. i really hope to see her fully produce something one day, she'd probably slay it. the album has a certain vibe and colour, and the productions brings it all together through the ups and downs of it, making it magical
- fav production: hopeless and don't play (complex one !!!)
- vocals: she has found a more suitable style but also has changed up the game, wich is interesting. she has a unique singing voice, pretty different from other ones, and she uses it in her own way. she knows it.
- instrumental: the album is full of catchy bops !!!! would've changed a couple of things in this matter, but they're really good. i like that it doesn't stay too "summery" neither too "wintery". you can listen to this album whenever you please.
- fav instrumental: alone and walls could talk
