For 'are' verbs, change the -are ending to -er.

• For example: parlare becomes parler-

Add the following ending to the stem:

• (io) -ei
• (tu) -esti
• (lui/lei/Lei) -ebbe
• (noi) -emmo
• (voi) -este
• (loro) -ebbero

If the infinitive ending is -ciare or -giare, change it to -cer or -ger.

• For example: cominciare becomes comincer and mangiare becomes manger.

Then add the above endings.

If the infinitive ending is -care or -gare, change it to -cher or -gher.

• For example: cercare becomes cercher and pagare becomes pagher.

Then add the above endings.

For 'ere' and 'ire' verbs, drop the -e of the infinitive ending.

• For example: scrivere becomes scriver and finire becomes finir.

Then add the above endings.

For unusual verbs such as tradurre, drop the -e and add the above endings.

For reflexive verbs, drop the -arsi, -ersi and -irsi endings.

• For example: alzarsi becomes alzar- which then becomes alzer-

Remember to add the reflexive pronouns and then add the above endings to the stem.

• For example: (io) mi alzerei
• (tu) ti alzeresti
• (lui/lei/Lei) si alzerebbe
