ABOUT LUCAS LYING.

  • riley was more upset by lucas not telling her that he was kicked out than the actual reason WHY he was. when lucas had a kid against the lockers, she says, "he’s going to be a veterinarian some day." she saw him get in someone’s face and saw 'texas lucas’ but all she could think was that she knew him, and he wouldn't hurt anyone, because he wasn’t that kind of person .

BARRY THE BEAR.

  • barry-the-bear bear was the most important object in riley’s childhood; the toy that she carried with her everywhere, her favorite plushie out of every other one she has. it was given to her one day when she was sick and her parents needed to go into work. she didn’t want him at the start - preferring her parents’ company - but after a moment of staring from the other side of the couch, she softened and never let him go. he was her confidant, her best friend besides maya. auggie bit off his face after becoming jealous of maya and riley hanging out so much, wanting some attention from his sister, and riley didn’t ask why he did that until her father assigned the forgiveness project. she forgave auggie, but ultimately, one night riley went to sleep and woke up to her beloved bear missing. she had everyone search, desperate to find him, and her mom and uncle josh wanted her to hold onto some of that innocence and her childhood; eventually, riley gives up looking, and her friends gently break it to her in her language: he knew it was time to go, that she didn’t need him anymore. it was definitely sad for her to lose him, but it showed a big part of her growing up. he was her best friend for awhile, especially when her parents were busy with work and not home. now she has a whole group to open up to, and her parents don’t work as much so she gets more time with them.
