• tell them made up stories, such as myths about: the toilet goblin, the one-legged arbor day squirrel, the birthday lobster, etc.
  • on Sundays (instead of church) go to museums, or discovery centers, or the park, or something else adventurous and cool.
  • buy them things in line at the grocery store, like gum and candy, because i feel like every child leaves the grocery store disappointed if they don't get something by the register.
  • watch the Sound of Music with them, at least three times a year (Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving).
  • while traveling by car, encourage them to bark at dogs in other cars to see if its ears perk up, or if it barks back (my parents did this with me, and still do...it's gotten past the point of embarrassing).
  • have a family dance party in the living room every friday night.
  • read to them all the time.
  • eskimo kisses, butterfly kisses, real kisses, raspberries
  • secret handshakes
