What are their family situations?
- Shiori (Leaf): Only child. Two parents, both ninjas. To be continued.
- G (Cloud): An orphan. He married a girl he was kind of rivals/kind of friends with as kids, and they worked out pretty decently until she cheated on him with someone else. (There were problems before that that neither of them were addressing.) Now he is a divorcee who is basically angry at people, especially women.
- Ken (Grass): Born with two loving parents who are both on the hefty side. Both of them are civilians. He's not from a ninja clan at all, so his parents basically are really excited about him and his life all the time. He has two brothers and a sister (one older brother, the other two are younger), and his parents own a dairy farm, so he's around animals a lot.
- Hijiri (Sand): Has a tense relationship with his mother. His father died in the war, and his mother is kind of difficult to be around. He was a prodigy growing up, and his mother pushed him really hard. At the same time, she constantly says things like "I don't think you can do it, but I hope you prove me wrong." By her twisted logic she's encouraging him, but it's not...really the best environment for him to be in. She also pushed him to be really competitive instead of try to make friends. If there was a kid who could match him, she'd try to pit him against them, so his friendship with Shuichi was really looked down upon. His mother was a teacher before she had him, so she is really invested in how he teaches, too.
- Kuroko (Grass): She is the firstborn of the Mihatsu clan, and her parents had hoped that she would be the heir to the clan. However, she brought home a Sound village refugee and wound up marrying a no-name ninja, so she's not on the best terms with her parents. They basically disowned her from the clan, though she's still on speaking terms with her sister. Her brother is still a little clouded in judgement by his parents, so he tends to look down on her.
What was Hijiri's experience growing up as a ninja post-war like?
- Not that great. His mom is somewhat paranoid and has the "before they turn on us" mentality. She doesn't think peace will last, so she made sure to push him in his ninja-ing. On top of that, she used to be a teacher whose methods are somewhat outdated even by Suna standards. So while he had teachers who were adjusting to peace and trying to incorporate that into his learning, she just went balls deep into war games. As a result, though, he managed to excel quicker than the other students and land himself at jounin level fairly young for his age.
Why did they decide to become sensei?
- Shiori: Shiori didn't even think about teaching until shortly before the war started. She and Mamoru never really intended to have kids so soon. They got married young, but they each had their own ideas for the future. Mamoru wanted to be a teacher, and Shiori slowly realized she wanted to become one, too. And then the war happened, and she decided to do it for both of them. As soon as she found time she went for a teaching position when the twins were young. She couldn't really take on any students until they were in school, though. (Mainly because that meant leaving them with family most of the time otherwise.)
- G:
- Ken:
- Hijiri:
- Kuroko:
Why were their kids chosen for them? What can they provide for those kids that makes them the best guardian for them?
- Shiori: She grew up with Kaori's parents and is still close friends with them, so she knows the sort of needs Kaori needs. And being the twins' mom, she knows what they need, as well. So while she didn't ask for them, they were considered best handled under her care.
- G:
- Ken: He is a well-rounded ninja who specializes in weapons, but has high chakra reserves and strives to utilize chakra techniques with his weapon usage. All of this team specialize in weapon usage. Kumori's clan techniques don't stand on their own in a fight, and Ruri specializes in medical jutsu. Sanae doesn't have a lot of chakra reserves and has to supplement most of his techniques with additional weapon training and taijutsu. This makes Ken more than an adequate teacher for instructing all of them.
- Hijiri: His specialization is puppets, though he knows how to utilize chakra techniques to amplify his attacks. All three of these things (summoning puppets) are things his students are learning. Because Chise requires the most amount of work, it was important that she was given a puppet teacher. Taka and Sora don't have that sort of specialization and do just fine with Hijiri's other focuses. Quick summoning is something Hijiri really tries to improve in Sora, and Taka's wind chakra techniques are something Hijiri is also good with. On top of that he's incredibly patient, which. Chise.
- Kuroko:
Are they prone to favoritism?
- Shiori (Leaf): Somewhat. Her favorite is Masao, but she doesn't let favoritism get in the way of her teaching. Her biggest focus is cooperative work, and because of clan techniques that is all taught at home. When it comes to individual work that is basic rather than clan-focused, she focuses a little more on Kaori because she needs to get her out of her shell. She trains with Tetsuo at home outside of school sometimes, so that during practice Tetsuo can sort of help train Masao while she's working with Kaori.
- G (Cloud): No. Not at all. He's very "ehhhhh" about all of them to begin with, so he doesn't show favoritism. Though the one he has the biggest fondness for is I.
- Ken (Grass): No. Mainly because the one he gets pressured to focus on wants nothing to do with him, ha ha! He works with Sanae a lot, too, but not much more than Ruri.
- Hijiri: Very much so, but in different areas. He prefers Sora and Taka, and, because of Sora's age, tends to shoot the shit with Sora when he's being lax in his ethics. (More on that later) He works the most with Chise, though, because they both are in the same area of study, and he takes serious issue with how cavalier she is. He strongly believes Sora should be the leader of the group under him, but Sora is very much not the leader type and the one that winds up stepping up for that duty is unfortunately Chise. So he works with her much more than the others for that reason as well.
- Kuroko: She definitely favors her brother, but only because she is also teaching him clan techniques and he is slated to be heir to the clan.
What is up with Hijiri's nasty sex doll in the ninja canon? Does he fight with that thing?
- First off, he doesn't have a sex doll. He collects bjds, and some happen to be full scale dolls. Secondly, his bjd collection in the normalverse is supposed to represent his puppets in the ninja canon. He fights with several different puppets, all of which are tasked with certain skills. He has a puppet that specializes in long-range attacks, and puppets that act as decoys, and others that are limber or smaller for faster movements. His most important puppets are also the largest. He keeps them in a special summoning scroll because they are too large to carry. The first is armored and is used protectively, either for himself or members of his team. And the second isn't armored, but it is large and fast and is meant to drag his students out of a fight as far as he can get it going so they can get a head start if they are in danger. These two are represented by full scale bjds in the hs au.
Do you think they make good sensei?
- Relatively. The weakest is definitely Ken, followed by Kuroko, but this is mainly because they are more average jack-of-all-trades ninjas who don't really have any specializations. The strongest is probably Hijiri in terms of specialization, but they all beat him when it comes to experience. And the strongest physically is G, followed by Shiori, followed by Ken.
Are they emotionally hardy? Have they steeled themselves to the fact that there's a very real chance that they might lose a student or two in their learning process?
How do they deal with flunkie students? Like would they try to get them not to stop being ninjas if the students decided to quit?
- Shiori would throw a fit, but she is a mother first. At the end of the day, her kids' desires are definitely what she sides with. And if that means not being a ninja, she will respect it.
- G would not care. If they don't want to learn, he doesn't want them wasting his time. In this regard he's a huge hardass. If someone looks like they aren't working at 100%, he tends to give them crap for it.
- Ken is just. He is the nicest guy. He's the kind of guy who'd go over to their house or take them out for ramen and see if everything's okay at home or if they're having mental problems, etc. He definitely wants to bring out the best in his kids and is incredibly understanding.
- Hijiri is very bad socially, but he works so hard for his students. He wanted to be a teacher more than anything and worked really hard for the chance to do it. He would never give up on his students. If any of his students wanted to quit, he'd definitely convince them to change their mind. Except Chise. She throws fits all the time and he's gotten to the point where he just lets her go. Because she'll be back the next day.
Do they have a student vetting process? Or do they just take on whoever was assigned to them? Apparently the sensei are free to provide a test to decide if the students are worthy of taking on? Is that a thing they have?
- Shiori: There's more to this under how they were assigned in the first place, so definitely read that. But in answer to THIS question, she didn't test them to make sure they were worthy. But they also weren't just assigned to her, either. There was a lot of extra stuff that went into their reasoning for why she was the one best suited for these three.
- G: He definitely provided a test. He doesn't want his time wasted. At the same time, he was sort of stuck with these kids. It's based on a headcanon for how students are assigned in this village.
- Ken: No test. He was assigned
How involved are they in the lives of their students outside of ninja missions?
What about the future? What involvement would they have with their kids as they rise up the ranks and into the future?
Are there any rivalries between the sensei? Personally or through a proxy?
- Shiori: None.
- G: He has a rivalry with his ex-wife and they fight both personally and through their students.
What role do they have in the hs au?
How involved are they with their students' families in both canons? Are they like lighting candles and shit so that they never get a call from one particular family?
Why did the Kumo sensei decide to adopt I?
- He was also an orphan, and he had just gotten out of a divorce. I might make it that he's sterile, but maybe not. Basically the fact that they weren't having kids was a point of contention that sort of spiraled into being mad at each other over other things. It doesn't help that his ex-wife was originally a rival of his when they were younger. But. Basically he saw a lot of promise in I and saw a lot of himself in her, too, and he felt like he needed to do something about it. This happens about a year or two after he started teaching them all.
What were they like as genin? Did they rise the ranks quickly or were they genin for years and years?
Has their fashion from their genin days to the present changed much?
