• Name Meaning: "Water of Truth"

This clan specializes in water-element chakra techniques, and in using other elements to change and manipulate water into its many forms. The transformation of water throughout the water cycle is what this clan strives for in its techniques. In the past, this clan has sought to harness the power of the water cycle as a means of attack/defense, but with wartime in the past, its techniques have become an expression of art and spirituality. The Mizumi clan is very small, with only two main branches with multiple offshoots scattered throughout Fire Country.

  • On the Two Main Branches

There are two main branches, both of which are settled in Konoha. The first branch -- the Head branch -- is the one that Kaori belongs to, and it is very particular about carrying on tradition and in producing heirs worthy of the clan name. The second branch, while also residing in Konoha, has also found a spot in the River Country and is beginning to settle in there. Both branches are locked in a feud tied to how they interpret the water cycle. The main branch views it in a very practical way, while the second branch takes a more spiritual look at the water cycle. The second branch uses the various techniques as a means of spiritual expression.

  • On Marrying Into the Clan

Like the Futaba clan, the Mizumi clan views intermarriage as a way of strengthening the clan. Because their clan has a strong tendency toward the water element chakra, and because different techniques require other elements, families who are attuned to the other elements are welcomed with open arms. This is especially true for the second branch.

  • The River Country Branch and Senma

While the River Country branch still uses Mizumi as their clan name on official documents, they have changed their family name to Senma, or "Spring of Truth," in an effort to set themselves apart. This is also what they have taken to call their spiritual practice. According to them, they are the fountain through which all spiritual truth springs. While the spiritual aspect existed long before they settled in River Country, this clan differentiates themselves by using aspects of the water cycle for combat once again and is aggressive in its missionary work. This branch does not require marrying into the clan in order to practice or learn their techniques, and all who wish to worship are welcome. The River Country branch has truly crafted "Senma" into a religion in every sense of the word.
