I was a mermaid, I lived in the coral reef with my significant other.

One night, men from the dry land came in our ocean with boats and submarines armed to the teeth with weapons made for catching and killing our kind; they captured my other half and dragged her on one of the boats, away from my reach. I fought with all I had, but it wasn't enough; my companion was theirs now.

Driven by vengeance, I swam away; I passed over the destroyed reef, through the deep underwater canyon where the rest of my kind lived, through the vast territory of the Whales where the kelp grew so tall it reached the surface. Two Whales led me to the center of their domain, to the Eye of the Ocean; the deep, dark hole looked like the pupil of an enormous eye, surrounded by the green kelp.

I swam inside and woke up the Kraken.
