Guy 1 long dark, blue-gray straight hair, light iron and fur armor Guy 2 short blonde unkempt hair, leather armor, carries a bag with some small notebooks

Two warriors want to fight evil supernatural creatures and go to the Legion of Silver to train. They spent 3 years there and became very good at fighting those creatures and, like all the other knights, they always kill them on sight.

An old Hispanic monk/sage/fortune teller tells them that it's okay to want to eradicate the evil of those creatures, but not all of them are. They should concentrate on the individuals and not always on prejudices and generic knowledge of the creatures.

Guy 1 sees the world as white and black and takes this too seriously. He now never fights if he's not attacked first, but most creatures rely on mind tricks and not on physical strength. He sees the world like it always was, normal and with less death and darkness than there really is, but guy 2 sees the truth. He didn't take the lesson by the letter, he knows that he can never trust any kind of creature without making sure that its moral compass is pointed in the right direction. Guy 2 follows guy 1 everywhere, always trying to bring him back on the right path, but never succeeds. He sees guy 1 slowly become a skeleton and then shift into a progressively shapeless solid shadow, all while watching him have fun and make 'friends' with all the creatures he encounters.

Guy 2 is not immune to this change either, but not as fast as guy 1, by the time guy 1 is a vaguely humanoid, soulless black shadow, he is just starting to rot and just his arms are showing some bone. Guy 2 records every day what he and guy 1 are doing in his small notebooks.

The two are one day killed by a group of their once comrades, the 16 notebooks guy 2 had filled were collected by the silver knights and copied into books as a reminder of how dangerous the creatures their people has to live next to and fight every day can be.
