• Part 1:
• Chapter 1:

Characters

• Addy and Cooper = the popular kids
• Simon = creator of gossip app, calls himself the omniscient narrator
• Mr. Avery
• Nate = bad boy
• Bronwyn = the nerd
• The detention group all found planted phones in their backpacks.
• After drinking some tap water, Simon has an allergic reaction.
• No one can find an epipen anywhere including the nurse’s office and Simon is wheeled out on a stretcher.

Chapter 2:

• We find out that Nate’s mom died.
• Could Addy be drinking because of nerves?
• Bronwyn receives a call that Nate died.

Chapter 3:

• Bronwyn says there is something Simon could have written about her in * About That, but it was now too late for him to do so.
• Bronwyn says that she was not doing well in chemistry, but brought her grade up by the end of the year, but says that no one would want her sharing her strategies with other students.
• In a meeting with the Breakfast Club, the principal, and a police officer we find out that there were traces of peanut oil in the cup that Simon drank out of.
• The officer asks if any of them were ever scared of being put on About That, and Nate says, “Everybody’s got secrets. Right?”
• Cooper is in deep with baseball - dad is uptight about it.
• Cooper is secretly seeing someone.

Chapter 4:

• Jake and Simon used to be good friends when they were younger.
• Nate gets a text from a friend with a link to a Tumblr post about someone claiming to have killed Simon.

Chapter 5:

• Nate shows up at Bronwyn’s house unexpectedly.
• Bronwyn used to crush on Nate.
• Addy slept with a guy named TJ while she was with Jake.

Chapter 6:

• Cooper is told about another Tumblr update at Simon’s memorial.
• The killer claims to have planned it by planting peanut oil, and taking away Simon’s water bottle so he was forced to drink from the tap.
• The killer also claims to have taken his EpiPen and all EpiPens from the nurse’s office.
• While at Simon’s memorial a cop asks to speak to Nate.

Chapter 7:

• A detective asks Addy to come with her to the station for some questions after Simon’s funeral.
• A post was queued on About That about all 5 of the detention club members.
• The detective tells Addy that they believe that peanut oil was added into the cup after Simon filled it with water.
• Cooper is also being integrated and shown the same post - except he claims that his isn’t true.

Chapter 8:

• Bronwyn admits to her parents that she stole the quiz answers and that Simon’s rumor was true.
• A detective warns Nate that he needs to stop dealing since people will see him as a scapegoat later on in the investigation.
• Nate goes to Bronwyn’s house but her dad says that he can’t be there so Nate leaves.

Chapter 9:

• Addy tells Jake the she hooked up with TJ.

Chapter 10:

• Bronwyn is advised by her lawyer not to speak to the other students so their relationships aren’t seen as conspiracy.
• Nate gives Bronwyn a burner phone so they can talk.
• Cooper gets a call from someone named Kris - who he claims he knows from baseball.
• Cooper’s grandma has a heart attack.

Chapter 11:

• Bronwyn and Nate confide in each other and admit that they did what was written in the unpublished blog post.
• TJ invites Addy to hang out with him since her and Jakes are over and she’s left alone.

Chapter 12:

• A new Tumblr post is posted and the original About That post is added.
• Bronwyn is focused on how weird it is that the cell phones ended up in each of their backpacks.

Chapter 13

• Cooper's Nonny calls him out for clearly liking someone else.
• Nate and Bronywyn have a movie night together and he promises to get her another prepaid phone.

Chapter 14

• Maeve, Brownyn's sister, believes there's something weird about what has been happening with Simon.
• Cooper is told that the four of them are under suspicion according to media regarding Simon's death.

Chapter 15

• Bronwyn basically tells Nate he could be a scapegoat for all of this, but she doesn't want that.
• Addy finds Jenae, Simon's goth friend, crying and consoles her.
• Bronwyn invites Addy to eat lunch with her and her friends.
• Addy goes to a cheap salon, ends up cutting her own hair, and asking the stylist to fix it.

Chapter 16

• Maeve finds a 4chan thread about an shooter at a school that Simon was commenting on.
• The four students are being nicknamed the Bayview Four.
• Cooper breaks up with Keely, but not because of what Nonnie said.
• Keely admits to kissing Nate, and apparently Simon liked Keely.

Chapter 17

• Addy discusses the sexism amongst the Bayview Four in the media.
• Bronwyn and Nate discuses who of the Four could have killed Simon
• Bronwyn and Nate drive to Nate's house and his mom is on his doorstep.

Chapter 18

• Simon wrote a bad post about Maeve and Bronywn responded saying,

Fuck off and die, Simon"

• Cooper goes to Kris' apartment and Kris is a guy who he ends up kissing.

Chapter 19

• Nate and Bronwyn become a thing.

Chapter 20

• Cooper is suspicious that Simon knew he was gay all along.
• Mikhail Powers approaches Nate but he drives away on his bike.

Chapter 21

• Mikhail Powers is outside of the school getting interviews from kids.
• Cooper sits with Addy during lunch for awhile so it doesn't look like he is completely abandoning her.
• Maeve mentioned the 4chan posts that Simon used to discuss on, and Janae flips out saying that none of them actually ever knew Simon.
• Janae invites herself to hang out with Addy after school.
• When at Addy's Janae suddenly leaves.
• Addy texts Bronwyn and responds with "Be careful. I don't trust her."

Chapter 22

• Cooper gets brought in for questioning regarding his name in the post and learns there was a second entry for himself where it got deleted and replaced with the fake rumor.
• The encrypted post mentions Kris.
• Cooper is now the biggest suspect due to this situation.
• Cooper comes out at home.

Chapter 23

• Cooper comes out to Addy.
• Cooper gets heckled at school for being gay.

Chapter 24

• Bronwyn watched Mikhail Powers' investigation report and realizes that his lens has been changed.
• Mikhail was outed against his will like Cooper.
• Mikhail's segment also includes the 4chan discussion threads.
• Bronwyn watches Nate get arrested for Simon's murder on tv.

Chapter 25

• Bronwyn's mom asks her if there is anything they need to know about Nate.
• Cooper tells Bronwyn he will reach out to Luis regarding the card accident outside prior to Simon's death.

Chapter 26

• Mrs. Macauley says that the school received a tip that Nate had drugs in his locker, but he didn't have drugs but found Simon's water bottle, Simon's EpiPen, and all the EpiPens from the school.
• A computer with all these Tumblr posts was also found in Nate's closet.
• Eli takes Nate's case, but asks for Bronwyn and her mother to leave due to legality issues.
• Bronwyn is upset because she feels like she needs to tell Eli much more about the case.
• Addy catches the Tumblr poster in a lie with something she told Jake.

Chapter 27

• Bronwyn texts Mrs. Macauley what she knows about the Tumblr post and the response is that Eli doesn't want Bronwyn involved further.
• Bronwyn gets the car information and finds out its a student at a nearby highschool and waits for the car to pull up one day.
• Sam, the student, says he was paid 1K to get in a wreck with a friend and the person who paid them was Simon.

Chapter 28

• Kris puts two sticky notes together "Simon was poisoned during detention" and "Simon was depressed."
• They think the 4chan posts are connected to his idea of being center of attention and taking people down with him.
• They also think Janae being depressed is a link.
• It's clear that Nate is super alone at this point.

Chapter 29

• Addy visits Janae to confront her.
• Janae confirms the situation and gives Addy Simon's manifesto, a document that was meant to send to the police a year after the incident and after the lives of the Bayview Four were screwed.
• Addy presses Janae about telling someone, but Janae doesn't think she has the sufficient evidence.
• Jake comes over, Addy hides, but ends up finding her.

Chapter 30

• Nate is released.
• Addy goes on to live with her sister.
• Nate and Bronwyn break up.

Epilogue

• Ashton and Eli start dating.
• Nate and Bronwyn plan a date.

• Why is Addy's mom insane? (Says that Addy is depressed because she hasn't had a bf, saying Addy let herself go, etc.
• How are Nate and Bronwyn in love?
• Who agrees to getting into a car accident on purpose for a prank?
• Harmful representation of sexuality and mental illness.
• How would you rewrite the ending? What would you change to make it more enjoyable?
