  • What makes them enemies?

"The reader will have a hard time sensing tension between the two if there isn't any to begin with! Enemies obviously need something to hate each other for, so you want to establish this at the beginning of the relationship when they first meet."

  • Take the time to make it believable!

"When you tell the reader that the character is going to forgive the other one for whatever they did and why, do it with care. Show the thought process, the growth, the reason, and give time to make the change reasonable in the reader's head."

  • Add tension!

"Let the tension build and thicken! That's the best part of reading this trope, and the most fun part to write, enjoy it, and don't ask yourself if it's 'too intense' or if you need to quicken the pace. The longer you draw it out, the better the resolution will be."

  • Make the relationship improve them both!

"Romances usually hold a meaning or message that the reader will take with them. The end of a romance should be positive, or transformative to the reader in a good way. Show how the enemies grow as people and learn to forgive each other!"

  • Give them reasons to start to forgive each other.

"Maybe they grow closer as friends first from working on something together. Maybe they're forced to do something together, and in that time, they get to know each other better!"
