advice: I think the Crosly costs about $120 bucks. For that amount of money I would do the following: spend $40 bucks on a vintage reciever with a phono stage. Since this setup us for a bedroom or a small room, you don't need anything too powerful. Sansui, yamaha, and pioneer all made quality gear and the lower powered recievers from the mid 70's to early 80s sound good and can be small enough for a dorm room. Craigslist should have have them. Second, spend 50 bucks on a vintage tt from dual, yamaha, sony, really any tt either belt or direct drive will do the job. Just make sure it has a decent needle on it, Crosly uses ceramic needles to cut cost and all they do is mess up your LPs. At the end of the day new LPs cost $20 and up so getting anything other than the Crosly is going to save you money by not messing up your records. Lastly, go to monoprice. Com and get their book shelf speakers, they cost $20 and sound good for your needs. While at monoprice pick up some speaker cable 18 gauge (you do not want thick wires as it will not help the sound and might not even fit an older reciever. You will also need rca cables to connect the reciever to the tt, again monoprice or Amazon has plenty of cheap ones for $5. Lastly invest in a large GW Bush campaign poster to keep the hipster guys away.
