i guess you can say this has been another slow month. i've read quite a few different things and i've read in a way i not usually do; reading several books at the same time.

  • Black Sun Rising by C.S Friedman. i ordered this book on a whim. ever since i read the black jewels trilogy by anne bishop, i've been dying to read some dark dark fantasy. i googled my way to a forum where someone was asking that exact question. got any dark fantasy books to reccomend? this one guy spoke very highly of this book by Friedman and i checked it out on amazon where it had recieved great reviews, and i just had to get it. i must admit, however, that i was a little disappointed. there was so much potential, but it didn't live up. it could have been so much darker. so much grittier. the worldbuilding was poor. it's the first book in a trilogy, but i haven't made my mind up whether i'll be reading the rest of it. like everything else...
  • De Få Utvalgte by Peter Høeg. this is a book about three kids at a danish boarding school and even though i don't read a lot of contemporary literature, i found myself liking this a lot. i like the simplicity of the language because it went well with the surroundings. it's also safe to mention that this book was utterly heartbreaking. sooo sad.
  • Happyslapped by a Jellyfish by Karl Pilkington. being a great fan of Ricky Gervais and Steven Merchant, i had to meet Karl Pilkington sometime, right? ever since i saw the ricky gervais show about a year ago, i've been a huge fan! i can't believe there's a guy out there like karl. he's... can't really think of a word to describe him. i borrowed this book by a friend in my dorm and this is basically a mix of diary entries and written memories of karl's experience on holiday. hah! an idiot abroad is ten times funnier though.
  • A City Too Near by Kay Kenyon. this is the second book in the Entire and the Rose-series, and i must say i wasn't disappointed. i hate to say, though, that this was your typical "second book". however, i am hungry for more. the last two installments in the series are supposed to be mindblowing, and i can't wait!

as of now i have finally started the tenth and final novel of the malazan book of the fallen, the crippled god. instead of drinking myself senseless on beer and other stuff, i'll continue reading that one tonight. life is good.
