this month started promising with me reading a lot of Ian Mcewan (my favorite author). i was all freaking out because i ordered new books which i thought i wouldn't be getting before i left to go back to school. turns out i got them! a day early even. i was very eager to finish those as well, but turns out you don't do a lot of reading when you go to barcelona in march. had it been in the summer, i would have, as i would have read a lot on the beach. but going on the beach in barcelona in march is... cold. anyway, here's the list!

  • The Broken Kingdoms by N.K Jemisin. this book really belongs on the february list, but i guess i thought i would be reading it in march instead. oh well. i love these books. they are fantastic and i love the world and the characters and the gods.
  • Solar by Ian McEwan. enjoyed this very much. very funny and included a ton of info on global warming.
  • The Cement Garden by Ian McEwan. this is McEwans first novel and you can really tell if you've only read his later novels. his "voice" is very different and he writes in the first person. it was rather interesting, though a bit short.
  • Amsterdam by Ian McEwan. another book i enjoyed very much. i thought the characters were interesting. the only thing i didn't like was the ending which put me off a bit.
  • The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch. this book was like reading an action movie, with a fantasy setting. i liked it, but it could've done with a little more character building. it also seemed a little modern for a fantasy book, but i liked it. don't know if i will be reading the rest of the series though.
  • Saturday by Ian McEwan. this book is very good. it consults a fair bit of problems in today's society, concerning terror and war and how the modern man behaves accordingly. a lot of stuff was going on and i can't even begin to imagine all the research McEwan must have done to write it. it's one of his best, but not one of my favorites.

Yesterday, just after finishing Saturday, i started Salme ved Reisens Slutt by the norwegian author Erik Fosnes Hansen. so far i'm really into it. promising!
