    • "I am drinking," replied the tippler, with a lugubrious air.
    • "Why are you drinking?", demanded the little prince.

    • "Ashamed of what?", insisted the little prince, who wanted to help him.
    • "Ashamed of drinking!" The tippler brought his speech to an end, and (?) him up in an impregnable silence.
  • "Oh. no. Little golden objects that set lazy men to idle dreaming. As for me, I am concerned with matters of consequence. There is no time for idle dreaming in my life."
  • "The orders have not been changed," said the lamplighter. "That is the tragedy! From year to year the planet has turned more rapidly and the orders have not been changed!"
  • "That doesn't do me much good," said the lamplighter. "The one thing I love in life is sleep."
    • "Good morning," he said courteously.
    • "Good morning-Good morning-Good morning," answered the echo.
    • "Who are you?" said the little prince.
    • "Who are you—Who are you—Who are you? answered the echo.
    • _"Be my friends. I am all alone,_" he said.
    • "I am all alone—all alone—all alone," answered the echo.
  • "Just that", said the fox. "To me, you are still nothing more than a little boy who is just like a hundred thousand other little boys. And I have no need to of you. And you, on your part, have no need of me..."
  • "One only understand things that one tames", said the fox. "Men have no more time to understand anything..."
