So friends, this is an exercise in ego, but I can live with that. It's also the easiest way to encourage stalkers without seeming entirely nuts. I'll live with that too.

About: I'm a student at UBC in lovely, rainy Vancouver. I live in an old house in the city with some rad roommates and a lot of house plants. I'm a writer, reader, activist, cyclist, and a history and anthropology major.

Shopping for Leny: A quick guide

  • Jewelry: It's a gift I can carry with me every day. I wear bracelets, necklaces, stud earrings (no dangle-y earrings), rings, and enamel pins. I like pieces that incorporate wood, semi-precious stones (eg: turquoise), and other things found in nature (fossils, shells, etc). My favourite motifs are things like keys, geometric shapes, feathers, trees, mountains, antlers, insect wings, and other natural elements. (A nice place to buy necklaces or bracelets from is The Giving Keys)
  • Books: ask for a link to my current Indigo wishlist or ask me for specific titles.
  • Tea: go to Bayswater Tea Company or a similar specialty tea shop and buy black, white, oolong, or green teas. My tastes tend towards Assams, Ceylons, Earl Grey, cream black teas, sencha, hojicha, and oolongs are typically my favourite.
  • subscribe me to Harper's, Canadian Living, Bon Appetit, America’s Test Kitchen, Real Simple, Better Homes and Gardens, The Walrus, the Atlantic, or & Other Stories (for 4 or 6 books).
  • Buy anything from this website, especially the Troubled Birds collection.
  • Special Edition Jane Austen books (hardback or leather bound, often with embossed covers and watercolour dyed endpapers), or special edition classics, especially by Georgian and Victorian era authors or by American writers from roughly 1890-1950 are a pricier option, but one I will treasure.
  • Other ideas: check this list! Look below for what I'm in need of these days.

Books

Cheap somethings and quick ideas

  • bath oils or epsom salts
  • dry shampoo from either L’Occitaine or Lush
  • L’Occitaine shea or almond products (shower oil or body butter)
  • Extra-dark chocolate, or dark chocolate with salt, caramel, chili peppers, peanut butter, or toffee
  • From Purdy’s: what I really like is either their sugar-free peanut butter fingers or the salted caramels. I also like their seasonal tins which come pre-made with a variety of truffles
  • I enjoycooking, gardening, home organizations and literary magazines
  • Go for a hike or to get coffee (or both!)

Jewelry

  • The Giving Keys Classic Necklace in silver (pick from these words: brave, let go)
  • Check out: Blue Ruby (a Vancouver chain).
  • Local Squamish jewelers

Cookware

House and Home

  • Candles (beeswax or soy only, please)
  • This shell wind-chime, must ship to America, unfortunately.
  • Medium or smaller sized pots with no drainage holes for indoor plants (Winners/ Homesense and IKEA, or from artisans at farmers markets are great places to look)
  • Plant stands from IKEA for indoors and outdoors
  • Gardening tools like hand rakes and hand trowels
  • Funky plants! (I would love: spider plants, fronded/ taller plants, larger succulents, hanging plants, pepperomia, dracaenas, aloe)
