Annie is a diminutive of Anne, the French form of Anna which is ultimately from the Hebrew name חַנָּה (Ḥanna) meaning "favour, grace", derived from the root חָנַן (ḥanan) meaning "to be gracious".

My middle name is Ann and Jay's is Andrew and so I see this as a nod to both of us, really. My only hesitation is that it was a friend's girl's name, but she did end up having a little boy.
