• during a festival called lupercalia guys would go out onto the street and whip random people to produce fertility in women
• if you mentioned a goat in front of caligula you were sentenced to death
• Also caligula: ordered his guards to throw a section of the crowd at arena into the pit between gladiatorial games. they were eaten
• there were 4 main teams of chariot racers that were basically like NBA teams just four of them. The green team was for the poor people
• the chariot racers chained themselves to the chariots so if they fell off during a crash they were dragged around the track until they died
• one time an emperor liked to shoot arrows through the heads off ostriches cause they walked around for a couple seconds after being shot
• the emperor caligula was batshit crazy. in the colosseum there was a huge tarp that could be put over the top to block out the sun but caligula never put it over cause he liked to see people faint and die from the heat. nice

• a form of entertainment was to throw slaves off of the top of the colosseum and watch them splat on the ground
• romans liked to watch criminals getting eaten by lions for fun. they wouldnt even fight them first theyd just get wheeled out on a plank and eaten
