    - NEVER say "i can't" 
 
    - let your hand draw what your eye sees 
 
    - don't waste paint 
 
    - don't be reluctant to say, "i'm an artist"
      
        - if you accept it and claim it as your own, others will follow 
 
      
  
    - rights and responsibilities
      
        - to create freely (intellectual property) 
 
        - interpretation/role 
 
        - to not be ashamed 
 
        - to promote, stimulate, and encourage others 
 
        - to know your audience 
 
        - art is what civilizes us 
 
      
  
    - defining yourself: if you don't do it, others will! 
 
    - when writing an artists' statement:
      
        - know about your context 
 
        - write it authentically 
 
        - enhance the value of what you do 
 
        - "catch yourself thinking about work" 
 
        - < 100 words 
 
        - first or third person 
 
        - clear, simple language 
 
      
  
    - meeting new people is the beginning of a dialogue 
 
    - for me:
      
        - collage is about context, or lack of 
 
        - one of the (highest) forms of design 
 
        - let the paper move for me
