  • Switching Mr. Pinney's entire room around in sixth grade, including the clock, the papers on his desk, and every single seat in the classroom. Yes, that was my idea.
  • Putting a rubber band around the spray nozzle on the sink in our apartment. Like every day for a week.
  • Switching our seating arrangement in Mrs. Emerson's class in seventh grade. Not my idea, but she nearly had a heartattack when she walked in and no one was in the right place.

  • First memory: Watching movers take apart my toys to put them in the van. Age 2.
  • Feeling the Blue Plastic Brush crack across my arm and shoulder. Age 6.
  • My dad waking me up in the middle of the night and telling me to put on my shoes. Taking me and Cass to Tara's house and leaving us there. Finding out from Katie that my mom had left and my dad was going to find her. Age 10.
  • Hugging Tara goodbye on the last day of sixth grade. My mom having to force me away. Being the last people in the parking lot, and crying all the way from Kansas City to St. Louis. Age 11.
  • A girl handing me a hair brush in gym class, sneering, "Here...since you don't have one." Age 12.
  • Coming home in tears after a day of being bullied and harassed at school, only to have my dad mock me for being weak. Age 1...
