• Cat's Cradle by Vonnegut ; am now a practitioner of boku-maru and searching for my karass, thanks to Vonnegut's passion for the odd religion of Bokonism in this novel.
  • Einstein's Dreams by Alan Lightman ; officially mind-fucked me on the topic of time.
  • The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera ; a wonderfully poetic (and translated from Czech, too) novel with short and sweet chapters combining the subjects of sex, relationships, love, politics, and dogs.
  • Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World by Vicki Myron ; a guilty-pleasure must for all cat-lovers. It illustrates the power that animals hold in our hearts.
  • Tender is the Night by F. Scott ; while the story is dry at some points, the prose had me melting into the floor with love.
  • On The Road by Kerouac ; an enthralling and freeing tale. The unedited scroll had a raw but flowing appeal to it. Made me question not only how literature could be presented (paragraphs are now proved unnecessary) but also how life could be lived, and what "home" really is.
  • Death by Neil Gaiman ; an amazing graphic novel covering the topics of teenage angst, death, and well...living. Full of memorable quotes, one being: "The best people ever get is horny...horny and scared."
  • The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky ; my all-time favorite coming of age novel. Captures the entire atmosphere of high school. It also was (and is) the basis for many of my following book, movie, and music choices. Influential in so many ways. I started reading it in 7th grade and read it every couple years since, each time generating new meanings and insights.
  • Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger ; another great coming of age novel, all though not as relatable as the Perks. Beautifully written.
  • The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde ; I love Oscar Wilde and loved how this novel approached the topic of vanity...
  • 100 Selected Poems by e.e. cummings ; My lifeblood.
  • The Tipping Point by Malcom Gladwell ; a surprisingly compelling book about the sociology of epidemics. A lot of business talk, which is fun to converse with my dad about.
  • The Heroin Diaries by Nikki Sixx
  • Loose Girl: A Memoir of Promiscuity
  • Kafka on the Shore by Murakami ; A wonderful blur of reality & dreams.
