"..teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I͟ a͟m͟ w͟i͟t͟h͟ y͟o͟u͟ a͟l͟w͟a͟y͟s͟, to the end of the age."

what is a disciple? how are they made?

a disciple is someone who is a learner, a committed & devoted follower, and an apprentice of Christ.

  • it's not just information, but imitation. true disciples also grow in character, love to learn about the doctrine and feel moved to serve God and others. in essence it is a practical, ongoing and transformative following of Jesus.
  • if we turn to the Bible, we can see that discipleship begins with evangelism.
  • Jesus took every moment, no matter the person, as an opportunity to share the good news of our Father in heaven.

it begins with us praying over our family members or sending a passage of scripture to someone who might be unsaved. some may wonder and ask "why?" these actions allow the Holy Spirit to work in hearts before/during/after the interaction.

what actions help the disciple?

helping the disciple means engaging of mutual discipleship (growing the faith while simultaneously helping someone else)

  • it is teaching and supporting someone to grow in their faith, spiritual discipline, follow closely in teachings of Jesus, and empowering them to live a fruitful & obedient life.
  • some ways we can grow in our own walk with Christ:
    • 1. listening to Christian podcasts
    • 2. confronting each other in our sins
    • 3. going to church. reading the bible and engaging with other believers
    • 4. pouring into others & encouraging one another through biblical teaching
    • 5. being connected with people that are older, wiser, stronger than you in the spirit
