- There should be no shift from hospital system to community system. The system should be equal parts hospital and community.
- Not just reorient and modernize, but add more hospitals
- There should be an increase in the budget for specific medicines
- It is not enough to integrate mental health care in the delivery system, it must be made top priority
- There is reorientation for those who did not have adequate mental health training but they forgot the provision and idea of emphasizing mental health and psychiatry in already existing and future institutions.
- There will be research and development but they need to add international tie-ins with other countries that are more knowledgeable in the field of mental health.
- They need to make a provision that will give a sustainable future for those with mental illness. It isn't enough to treat them, the law must make a provision guaranteeing them a place and job in society.
- The law fails to ensure a representative in the government for mental health. There is a representative under DOH but what about the senate?
- The law specifically forgot to specify when the mental health program should begin. In my opinion, it should begin as early as elementary or even preschool.
- The law should also add and push for the change in the physician licensure exam. Instead of containing 6 questions about psychiatry, there should be a separate exam pertaining to psychiatry and psychology as a whole.
- The law should also call for an increase in the salary of mental health professionals because the task ahead of them will not be easy.
- The law should add a specific provision for disaster relief victims. Ex. victims of typhoon yolanda now suffer medical problems. They should not only be given access to mental health care, they should be given free treatment.
- The law should also call for a mental state of the nation address.
