In an effort to be more optimistic and to see the more positive side of things, I'm making this list to help me whenever I feel like exploding or resigning.
- The pay. I can contribute money to my parents now and I can afford a lot of things I couldn't before.
- I go home early. The latest I've left the office is 6:30, this gives me more time to pursue other hobbies or spend time with the people I love.
- I have time to go to the gym (to help me achieve my New Years' goal of working out and being healthier)
- I have time to study and go to classes
- I realized that work-life balance is possible! I have more time for MY life.
- I'm not stressed out (unless the German throws a fit)
- I never get pay cuts when I'm late.
- I don't get taxed.
- Because it's an NGO, I know, that in the big picture, my job helps people.
- My work impacts people and the country. Usually, there are articles in the paper or current events going on that are related or connected to the projects we're doing -- so I sometimes get inside information about the bigwigs of countries.
- The organization is well-known in the international industry so if I want to push through with a job in the United Nations or ADB, my current job or workplace has bearing.
- The right contacts recognize the company I work for. All the foreigners I've been meeting through random circumstances seem to know either my boss or the company I work for.
- They will subsidize my education of a new language.
- I'm exposed to international contacts and opportunities.
- There is an opportunity to be sent for local or foreign travel.
- There is an opportunity for studies abroad.
- I get the only computer that has internet access.
- I have time to read.
- Since it's not a big office, there's no chismisan or gossiping or competing with each other.
- The very European/professional culture of minding your own business. I hate how Filipinos have this "office barkada" mentality. Just because we work in the same office doesn't mean we all have to be TGIS redux with matching love triangles. Call me anti-social but I'm not into making friends with my workmates.
- Since most of the people I work with are pretty simple, there's no "fashion comeptition" like there was when I was in advertising. I don't feel like I need to keep up and be a fashionista so I save money by not shopping so much anymore.
- I'm learning to be on time! Finally, this is good training for me because I'm always late. Those Europeans are such sticklers for punctuality!
- I'm getting exposed to working with other cultures. Another learning experience for me to help me be more open-minded and tolerant of other practices.
