as well as some of my thoughts. lol.
β films.
jan 21st: avatar (2009) & avatar: the way of water (2022)
i recently got interested to watch avatar due to my tiktok feed suddenly giving me a lot of content related to it back in early january. i was one of the many people who sat down at a movie theater during 2009-2010 to watch it, but quite frankly, i was a really young and dumb 5yr old (that probably made some people feel old, sorry about that LOL). so it shouldn't surprise you that i do not remember jack shit about itπ
i just recall the memory of me watching it, and extremely vague scenes of (in retrospect) the part where jake sully wakes up for the first time in his avatar state and runs out to that little common area that had those other humans as their avatars.
anyways, i watched those two movies all in one night alongside my older sister. it made me realize my attention span is actually pretty good, for one. but it also helped that they were really good! surprise, surprise... the avatar movies are pretty good. nothing that shocking. i don't know, i think a part of me thought they were going to be a little bad?? i think it was because there was a period of time on the internet where for some reason the majority of people utterly despised avatar.
this isn't to say there aren't things from these movies that aren't a little questionable. there's definitely a lot to criticize. the number one thing, it is in fact a white savior film lmfao. but i think for a lot of those people, they just simply hated it because it was the highest grossing film for a long period of time, iirc. i think it was a marvel movie that eventually topped avatar (2009), if i'm correct? honestly, a shame. because that film has so much more substance than anything marvel has put out in such a long time. even the cgi in avatar (2009) looks a million times better.
overall, i think my two favorite characters are lo'ak and kiri. and also shout out to payakan, the absolute goat. the moment i saw those whale-like creatures, the tulkuns, i knew the film was going to be amazeballs. marine life is freaking awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i can't wait to watch fire and ash :D
jan 27th & 28th: howl's moving castle (2004) & spirited away (2001)
putting these two together since i (kind of) watched them in one sitting. two of my all time favorite films, can't even lie. sometimes i feel a little corny when i remember that a good portion of my most favorite films are ghibli, but... they're good!!! like what can i say? they're popular for a damn reason. this time, i watched these because of aksually's and prezoh's double feature vod of them watching together. it was so funnnn. god, these movies are so damn good. this is some good fucking food bro. now this!!! this is cinema. also, forgot how good spirited away's soundtrack is. i utterly adore the world's of these two films. i just wanna jump into the screen and explore.
i have a hard time pin pointing exactly who my favorite character's are in a ghibli film, because to be honest, every single character is fantastic more than half the time. but if i had to pick, i would say howl for howl's moving castle. i am in fact not immune to how pretty he is. and i love how he's a little of pathetic LOL. for spirited away, i would say haku! my little river spirit dragon! :3 anyways, you don't need me to sit here absolutely glazing tf out of these movies. everyone already knows.
jan 31st: challengers (2024)
another rewatch lol. also one of my favorite movies. same thing, i watched a vod from 2025 where aksually and prezoh watched this lmfao. this film just feels like a really long and sexually tense music video. and i'm all for it. this film's soundtrack is perhaps in my top 5, all thanks to trent reznor & atticus ross!! love them. i had listened to the score prior to watching, so the first time i did i was deadass soyjaking every fucking time one of the songs started playing like π±π±π± OH MY GOD!!!!!! i mean, tbh i still was LMFAO. i go back to this soundtrack so many times. it's just so good. tashi, art, and patrick are all little weasels and it's amazing. they all suck, but they're hot asf. i need all three of them so bad. love it!!! iloveitiloveitiloveit!!!!!! jarvis, show me the scene of art & pat making out on repeat for 10 hours.
