Mo Xuanyu reminds him so strongly of his lost love that his heart aches whenever he watches the young man bounce around, his red ribbon twirling gracefully behind him. As the two grow closer, guided toward each other by a mutual, invisible pull, it becomes increasingly difficult for Lan Wangji to separate his eternal love for Wei Wuxian from his blossoming feelings toward Mo Xuanyu.
Five months into his travels, Wei Wuxian gets word that Lan Wangji has disappeared. Everything changes.
