Alice is the first of a two-part experiment, a project started with the intention of creating a creature strong enough to defeat the anomaly in the multiverse, but not strong enough to cause another one.

Created and raised in a laboratory belonging to the CCC, Alice was put through physically and mentally draining tests in an attempt to hone her powers — telekinesis, conjuration, and shapeshifting, to name a few. Unfortunately, while she could use her telekinesis and conjuration decently well, she could only shapeshift into her “beast” form when under extreme stress.

Try as they might, the scientists couldn’t fix this blunder, and the perfect execution of this “beast” transformation was extremely important to them. So, they did as any stone-cold professionals would — attempt to exterminate her so they could start over.

While they were certain that they had killed her, she had simply played dead extremely convincingly. Using her powers to escape the facility, Alice hitched a ride in a government delivery truck departing from the laboratory and rode it all the way to the city.

The young girl spent some time on her own after that, angry at the world for letting everything she had gone through happen to her. She took up stealing to provide for herself, earning her favourite item of clothing thanks to her sticky-fingered ways — a red cloak with darker red hearts on it.

One day, while committing more petty theft, the drugstore she was in got raided by the Toppat Clan, who were looking for medicine to give to their medic. Curious, Alice followed the Toppats like she was one of them, and somehow snuck onto the airship without being detected.

Of course, the bright red hood in a sea of top hats quickly gave her away as soon as she was out in the open. But much to her surprise, the Toppat chief, Reginald Copperbottom, wasn’t angry with her for sneaking on board his ship. In fact, he seemed almost impressed, and offered her a place to stay for the time being. Ecstatic at the idea of finally having a roof over her head, Alice accepted in a heartbeat.

The temporary living situation quickly became permanent as the leader and his right hand man got attached to the little jackalope girl, practically taking her in as their own. She currently resides with the Toppat Clan, spending her days following Reginald around the airship and helping out like a loyal little puppy in a pretty spiked collar.
