- Deer and rabbits will not eat these plants:
DEER--Wild columbine, Canadian wild ginger, Dutchmen's breeches and ostrich fern (all of which are native Iowa plants). RABBITS--(annuals) ageratum, wax begonia, vinca, spider flower, geranium...(perennials)lady's mantle, columbine, astilbe, garden mum, bleeding heart, hardy geranium, daylily, siberian iris, bee balm, daffodil and peony.
Daffodils contain a crystallized enzyme that is toxic to other plants: the liquid that emerges from the stem when they are cut is that enzyme seeping out so don't mix daffodils w/other cut flowers.
