Much to the dismay of her mother, Xiao inherited her father's technopathy. He was a skilled hacker, and as soon as she was old enough, he started teaching Xiao the ways of the "family business". Despite the fact that they could easily acquire large amounts of money, he taught her to live humbly. Most of the money they made went to helping others, leaving them just enough to live comfortably.

A lot of her father's work involved exposing people who were "evil", he only worked with good intentions. However, many people wanted him gone. The family had to lay low, and her mother was tired of it. She left them when Xiao was only 11, and from then on it was just Xiao and her father.

Being around machines and numbers all the time turned Xiao into an antisocial and emotionally distant person. She didn't see a need to go out and make friends when she could stay in and play video games with people online, or build robots that were smarter and better. The few human friends she did have are people she cares deeply about.

Her father blamed himself for his wife leaving, and fell into a depression. He became careless with his work, not caring enough to cover his tracks anymore. Carelessness led him to his death, and Xiao couldn't help him. She put the blame for everything that happened on herself, and ended up on a not so good path.

With support from a close friend, she snapped out of it and decided to start anew. Her parents, wherever they were, wouldn't be proud. She adopted the name Eliza, and decided to put the past behind her.
