🍎 some context. a while back, i would struggle very hard with expressing what i like and didn't like..!! i wasn't sure what counted as an interest of mine, and i struggled with identity formation and all that fun stuff!! since 2023, i've tried to better organize my thoughts on things (i forget a lot too), so i thought really hard about my personal tastes... what i considered good or bad. and so i made my personal rating system!! it best expresses how i feel about things, i'd like to think!! and it shows me the works that are more memorable to me than others :)

🍏 these are all extremely subjective. based on a five star rating; each half is a point out of ten!! this scale pretty much applies to any medium!!

★★★★★ ┇ 10/10 ・ of sentimental value

• by any means, i'm not claiming any of these works as perfect. it's just that they mean a lot to me, and are pieces that i find myself connecting with a lot!! or that they're rooted very deep in my personality. strongest of all emotional connections.
• either that or they're very very cool!!

★★★★½ ┇ 9/10 ・ lovely!!

• makes me feel slightly more things. perhaps i've cried, or maybe i experienced it with someone close to me!! sentimentality is a huge factor in my scale...
• generally just really, REALLY good!!

★★★★ ┇ 8/10 ・ great!!

• this is where my favorites start!! though with some flaws, i would still happily recommend anything from this point and beyond!! this is the point where i can really say that i love something :D
• perhaps i will start begging people to get into media on this tier (and above)
• for albums, that generally means i like more than half the tracklist and from that handful, some of those songs are favorites of mine. or some that i love!!

• um yeah!! these are good, alright!! i like them enough, but not enough to feel very connected with them. i still think they're plenty neat, and maybe other people may enjoy them more than i do!!
• for albums, this means i like more than half the tracklist but don't feel too attached to any of the songs... if that makes sense? (i originally came up with this scale because i wanted to properly sort out my music thoughts! lore!)

★★★ ┇ 6/10 ・ just OK... i see why people like this, but...

• but i probably have found it boring, i'm sorry!! either that, or there's some flaws that hold me back from saying that it's good. it's mostly the former, though. stuff falls into here when i start to think "ah, i guess this isn't for me..."
• are these bad pieces of art? mm no!! there are some widely beloved media that i had to unfortunately put under here, so please believe me when i say this isn't a bad rating. i can see the merit in the work, and i could understand how certain people (that aren't Me) would like it!!
• for albums: i like less than half of the songs in the tracklist and have saved less than half of it in my music library!!
