• angelina quinlan(1994; midwood high school). it wasn’t like she wanted to be a cheerleader. because parading around and jumping and doing jerkeys or whatever the fuck that was? it was like veritable hell, from the sound to the actual action to the innumerable consequences, like having rhett and shane mockingly make you posters to cheer for the cheerleaders. it was humiliating. and it was school-mandated because that evil principal fuck thought angie needed more “extra-curricular activities” to make up for her “lack of school spirit and shit.” but, mostly because he knew she had been behind a series of pranks and ~trouble and everything, and it was legit blackmail. of course, she got thrown off the squad about two months into it because her grades weren’t good enough to stay on an athletic team, but you know. also, none of the other cheerleaders trusted her. they wouldn’t even let her be a base. they thought she was going to kill them. she should’ve been, though, SHE WAS STRONGER THAN ANY OF THOSE FUCKERS.
  • anouk vander wyden(1994; flushing high school). it’s a pretty simple story: she was on the squad, then she got knocked up, and thus her cheerleading career ended. she pretty much laughs about it and says she was too tall for the rest of the squad, anyway.
  • sunny sedgwick(1996-2000; waccamaw high school). well, her endless amounts of pep and smiles and sunshine needed some kind of outlet, you know?
  • bambi archibald(2000-2004; la salle academy). she and owen were a well-oiled cheerleading machine. nobody got between them and the scorpion.
  • cricket clayton(2002-2006; flushing high school & 2006-2010; new york university). it was a no-brainer: popular girls are cheerleaders. popular girls are cheerleading captains. cricket was both. she also had random cheer-offs to keep the other girls ~in their places, aka below her. she continued in college because she was good and it was there. what other reason did she need to wear a tight, tiny skirt?
  • indira singh(2004-2008; midwood high school_). she did it because vanessa did. well, somebody had to keep an eye out on her… and her brother’s weird friend…
  • wendy jones(2004-2008; beverly hills high school). people told her to try out because she was so bubbly and energetic. read: people told her to try out because there aren’t many other after-school activities for dumbasses.
  • angsty lennox (2006-2008; midwood high school). at first, he did it for the hot chicks. and then… he did it for the hot chicks. except that hannah girl, she was fucking crazy. she threatened him with a bowie knife and katana after he hit on her ONE TIME. a katana? what the fuck was that? did that even exist? or had she been talking to that one teenage mutant ninja turtles-obsessed girl on the squad? either way, she wasn’t worth the battle scars. not when there were plenty of other girls on the team. they liked that he brought his camera with him to practice. they liked the attention. with his beautiful portraits and excellent moves (you couldn’t fucking touch his splits), he was a smash hit.
  • lauren bennett(2007-2010; la salle academy). she just liked the flippy little skirts.
  • tiergan roberts (2006-2010; midwood high school & 2010-2014; new york university). hell, she’d been a cheerleader since she was five years old and her mother found one of those cute little junior training day camps. it’s practically ingrained in her blood. she was made the captain in 2009, as a junior, which was pretty much a big deal. probably because she was easily the best girl on the team. and also the biggest pushover, which ended up not being the greatest thing because she was willing to give anyone whatever they wanted as far as stunts and routines went. she’s actually still a cheerleader, this time for nyu, even if their athletic teams are… pathetic at best. she loves it, though, especially flying. it’s what she does. it’s what she’s always done.
  • austen carlyle (2006-2010; midwood high school). more or less, she joined the team because she wanted to support preston while he was playing football. and she was his girlfriend, so… it was basically expected, right? besides, she’d taken some gymnastics, and stuff. she wasn’t as good as that little blonde girl, but she was decent and smiley enough to make it work. having to grin up a storm all the time was less than ideal when she was having an off day (like the entire month after she and calvin… happened), but small price to pay for making it seem like you were perfect and had everything together. now, though, it’s a genuine relief not to have to wave around pom-poms everyday.
  • colbie robinson (2008-2012; midwood high school). she’s bubbly and bouncy and likes being athletic and cheering people on. it was a pretty natural choice.
