--- * --- Bonus Track (has nothing to do with AP World History)

Song Explanations Part A An Introduction to AP World

  • Far Far || AP World History de-emphasizes the West and emphasizes the faraway Eastern half of the globe.
  • Season of Love || This song has to do with ways to measure time, just as we learned about how important it is for historians to classify things in eras and that it’s somewhat subjective.
  • It’s a Disaster || This is how the year starts for a lot of students getting acclimated to the workload. “Crash and burn, Crash and burn….”
  • That’s Just the Way We Roll || A song about doing things your own way, even if it’s unorthodox. As long as it works, right?
  • Little Respect || An 80’s favorite. You’ll never learn anything in AP World if you don’t approach the class with respect.

Formations of Classical Societies

  • Chunari Chunari || This is an old Persian Folk Song with a traditional dance that goes with it. It’s been up-dated with a dance beat. Goes with the Persian Empire
  • Wo You Wo De Young || This is a Chinese song by a popular Taiwanese Boy Band. It goes with the Chinese Classical Era. (Not the music itself… but that’s okay.)
  • Mauja Hi Mauja || This is my favorite Indian song from a Bollywood movie. You should watch the video on youtube; It has a really fun dance! This corresponds to our Unit on Classical India

Post-Classical Era & Age of Cross Cultural Interaction & Origins of Global Interdependence

  • Istanbul (Not Constantinople) || Obviously goes along with the Byzantine Empire, the Ottoman Empire, and the sacking of Constantinople
  • Personal Jesus || Goes along with the rise of Christianity and other religions that offered personal salvation or caring deity.
  • 없는 번호 || A popular Korean song from the current biggest music group in Asia. This song was chosen to show the parts about Korea highlighted in the Chinese chapter.
  • Dirty Cash || ***Bonus Track***
  • A Fleur De Toi || My favorite French song. Put in to go along with the Chapter centering on the Frankish Kingdoms.

Age of Revolution, Industry, and Empire

  • Chelsea Dagger || A song from a talented Irish Band, chosen to go along with the rise of immigration in the US from Eastern Europeans, Italians, and the Irish. (Also, you really had to hear this song. ☺)
  • Unchained Melody || ***Bonus Track***

Contemporary and Global Realignments

  • I Know Where I’ve Been|| A song from a musical about the civil rights movement set in the 60s. It’s also about recognizing where your people have come from, the mistakes they have made, and making the decision to move forward as they couldn’t.
  • Run and Tell That! || A song from the aforementioned musical that talks about their struggle in a more lighthearted way. It also makes some allusions to Black Nationalism
  • Travelin’ Soldier ||A song about the Vietnam War.

National Brotherhood Week || A humorous song that is about the hatred between different groups in the 20th and 21st centuries.

  • This Love|| This is a Korean hip-hop version of the popular American song “This Love” by Maroon Five. This symbolizes the bridging of the East and West.

Part B Contemporary and Global Realignments continued…

  • We Didn’t Start The Fire || What history playlist would be complete with the first song to turn classrooms on their heads? Chronicles various historical points of the 20th century.
  • What You Own || A song from a musical about the 90s about the struggles of young artists in New York struggling with their art, corporate America, AIDS, and love.
  • Refugees || By one of my favorite contemporary poets. It’s about various crises in the Middle East and how that translates to the West.
  • Where is the Love? || From gangs to war to violent videogames, this song covers the problems facing us in the 21st century.

The Future

  • If Everyone Cared || Goes along with the message of the previous song.
  • What I’ve Done || Looking back at history, this song is about how it’s in the present where we can make up for our past mistakes. (This is a FANTASTIC song to turn to volume ALL THE WAY UP for)
  • Clocks || The band that created this song is internationally acclaimed for their uniqueness and talent. They play contemporary music using Classical Asian Instruments. There are no guitars, snare drums, or other western instruments. This is a take on U2’s hit “Clocks.”
  • Year 3000 || An 80s song resurrected by to JoBros. Talks about the future and time travel.
  • One Girl Revolution|| History starts with us so it’s up to us to make the world what we want it to be. “I shoot the shot, Bang!, that you’ll hear ‘round the world.”

Exams and the End of the Year

  • Take Me Home Country Road|| A song about a man going back to his home of Hawaii (in the original song it was West Virginia, I think). Parallels our need to finish up the year so summer can start.
  • Gotta Get Thru This || This is how we all feel at the end of the year. Gotta get through the chapters, gotta get thru the review, gotta get through the exams.
  • Only Time || Another song by the Twelve Girls Band. A cover of Enya’s song. The song is about how the answers to all the questions in the world lie in time.
  • For Good || A song about how people affect one another throughout history sharing knowledge, ideas, and conflicts. It also represents how this course has changed me and the way I look at the world.

More Bonus Tracks

  • Maneater || A fun song to dance to.
  • Mambo No. 5||Possibly one of the best one hit wonders in history. (no pun intended)
  • Lips Like Morphine|| A very 80s sounding song, but it actually was released not too long ago. It’s a good song to blast.
  • Sunglasses At Night || Another 80s song. On of my favorites.
  • Get Up|| One of the best songs to dance to. This is pretty recent and came out in the dance movie Step Up.
  • Kiss From A Rose|| A nice song to listen to in the car. Very light and easy.
