the two lay on a purple blanket, under the stars. a typical cliche, but it was worth it, for the sights were simply breathtaking. though he saw this as a date, she saw it as much more. yes, she saw it as an opportunity to explore the deepness of his soul; she had no romantic interest in him, but instead, she wanted to know everything about him.
he was one of those people who, despite seeming like a normal kid, had tons and tons of weight bottled up on the inside. she was a total weirdo, who wasn’t even from this world, and her goal for the warm, summer night was to find a friend that she could be bound to for life. why she chose him, she did not know. maybe because he had the most obvious crush on the new girl, and she knew it would be easy to reel him in. all she knew was that, while she was around him, she felt,,, different.
“so i hear your birthday is coming up, right?” he asked her.
“i guess so. i kinda lost track about fifty years ago,” she said. he instantly turned and look at her, worried. she giggled.
“w-what do you-”
“it’s a joke, silly. it was actually over a century ago since i last counted!”
he shrugged it off, taking it as some dumb joke. he knew that sometimes people said weird things like that as a joke, and then they’ll tell you next that they’re a vampire. but that solution never came. instead, he found, as the night went on, that her situation was even weirder than that.
as soon as the conversation died off, she didn’t hesitate to start another. she pointed in the direction of the big dipper and exclaimed, “there, that’s where i’m from. not that you’d believe it, but that’s my home!”
“you’re right, i don’t believe it,” he started, and she looked at him, her eyes begging him to continue. “but, i want you to convince me.”
“i could do that, easy. but… i don’t really want to go back just yet…” she lingered, then turned to look at him. she stared into his eyes, gazing deep into his mind, and he didn’t even know the power she possessed. he saw this moment as a chance to steal a kiss, but she stopped him, showering him with immediate regret.
“my stars, i am so so sorry, i didn’t mean-” she put her finger to his lips and shushed him, turning to look at the sky.
“no, it’s not that. i’m just more into girls right now is all,” she said, standing up. she reached out her hand, and whispered to him, “come on.”
“wh-” he started.
“i’m going to prove it to you,” she said, and he valiantly took her hand. and, like magic, because that’s what she’s made of, the purple blanket that once carried two souls in the midst of the universe, was left empty, only to be blown away by the wind that would soon come later.
