I selfship very heavily to cope with my own personal issues. These characters are like real people to me, and allow me to cope with trauma I've faced. As such, I become extremely uncomfortable seeing others speaking romantically or sexually about them. Any specific amount of being exposed to this makes me grow to dislike these characters, and ruins the bond I have. It's one of my only genuine, healthy coping mechanisms.
