  • love you forever robert munsch
    • my aunt lillian gave it to me and my mom would read it to me, reciting the lines "i'll love you forever, i'll like you for always, as long as i'm living my baby you'll be," as she rocked me back and forth.
  • the SMELLY book babette cole
    • always always good for a laugh. how could a kid not love a book about smelly things?
  • the giving tree shel silverstein
    • shel silverstein is a genius. those silly, imaginative poems are my favorite kind. i appreciate them so much more than the deep, mysterious ones about the moon as a metaphor for a lonesome soul or something.
  • where the wild things are & in the night kitchen maurice sendak
    • i once got my copy of where the wild things are signed by a guy dressed up as a wild thing in our local bookstore and somewhere twisted the memory into an image of maurice sendak signing my book. my dad laughed at me when i asked him if it was true.
    • in the night kitchen may have been the spark to some of the flying dreams i had when i was little. for some reason i was always flying through the produce section of the grocery store.
  • the cat came back bill slavin
    • reading this book based off an old song is about as close to singing as my mom ever got. she hates singing in front of people. she too shy to even sing us happy birthday!
  • the foot book dr. seuss
    • it was the first book i could read on my own.
