First section (boosting energy) suggests a resolution chart, so that you can reward yourself by ticking off tasks when you complete them.

  • go to sleep earlier (more energy)
  • exercise better - start walking more (even just 10mins)
  • toss, restore, organise (reduce, reuse, recycle) - remove clutter, give away stuff you don't use/need/want (improves your environment, reduces anxiety / stress), if you have mess is it because you don't have anywhere to put it (buy clear storage things)
  • do it now - don't postpone things that take one minute or less
  • evening tidy-up, take 10 minutes before bed to do simple tidying
  • tackle a nagging task - write a to-do list of all the things you need to do and start doing them - engineer an easy success to boost your mood, by completing an easy task that you've been putting off
  • Act more energetic - mood follows action, smile (be happy), act energetic (and energy follows etc) is the theory.

2nd section: Marriage / Relationships

  • You can't change anyone else, only yourself
  • quit nagging - nothing kills the feeling of friendship (and passion) more than nagging. Nagging doesn't work anyway.
  • don't expect praise or appreciation - hug for at least 6 seconds to promote the release of oxytocin, and seretonin (mood-boosting chemicals that promote bonding)
