Montréal

  • 01 (jeudi): Officially moved to my new place in the Village and organized, got my deposit back
  • 02 (vendredi): First morning at new place, Ariana released the new song Boyfriend and it's so good, tried out kouign amann for the first time, met Peter and had gyro
  • 03 (samedi): Sold clothes to Eva B for store credit, picnic and dog park with Delphy at Parc Jarry, enjoyed the éclair and macarons
  • 04 (dimanche): Delicious brunch with eggs, bread, cheesee, and ground veggie meat and onion hash, moved last remaining stuff at Delphine's place to Alistair's, grocery shopping, meal prep (ground meat and pilaf)
  • 05 (lundi): Read Hope for the Flowers by Trina Paulus for the 1st time (mom gave it to me for Christmas 5 years ago), lunch with Sharone and Penny, therapy session with Zahara, went for a run at Parc La Fontaine
  • 06 (mardi): Talked to Simon about tea, met up with Kenny, bought some groceries at Segal's, got a free cinema pass in lieu of watching screening at la BANQ, arrived home to Fred making gazpacho—asked me to try it and also offered me some sushi
  • 07 (mercredi): Worked as always, grabbed my stuff at Alistair's, deposited money and had a nice convo with the cute Asian bank-teller, hung out with Cynthia at Havre aux Glaces and some meat buns at a Chinatown bakery,took my first bathtub bath since forever, made a varenyky casserole with onions and spicy Italian sausages
  • 08 (jeudi): Penny gave me advice + hugged her cause today's our last day working together, hung out and caught up on things with Kelsey at Alexis Nihon, pizza and salad dinner with comparative politics colleagues and professors, semi-pamper evening
  • 09 (vendredi): Headed to work to grab stuff, first lecture day, free lunch, first-ever Montréal tour, bought a Chromebook on sale online, semi-pamper afternoon, Fierté Montréal opening event at Parc des Faubourgs (traditional Métis performance), made tortilla española with onions and vegetarian faux meat)
    • Montréal tour: Parc du Mont-Royal, Plateau-Mont-Royal, Saint-Viateur bagels, and Vieux-Montréal
  • 10 (samedi): Canadian politics lecture, watched the Dano-Swedish film Sami Blood for the First Nations festival, had drinks at one of my classmates' place in the McGill Ghetto, and went to Marc Antoine's place
  • 11 (dimanche): First Israeli politics lecture and another Canadian politics lecture, reception at the Desautel's building, tried out burekas for the first time, hung out with Delphine at the Plateau where we had ice cream at Kem Coba (I got feuille de pandanus and _corossol_) and got poutine to go at Chez Claudette
  • 12 (lundi): Ottawa trip, reminiscing time spent here with Javi in March 2018, tour of temporary Senate and House of Commons sites and met with Senator (from Manitoba/Ontario???), lunch alone in the Byward Market with a sandwich with Hungarian salami, Swiss cheese, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, and spicy eggplants from an Italian store and a strawberry cheesecake BeaverTail, bought How to Win Friends and Influence People from food, cloud watching on the way home and saw un drapeau franco-ontarien
  • 13 (mardi): Last set of comparative politics lecture in Montréal, went in store to get my Chromebook which I absolutely love, went to Winners and Marshalls to buy new pants, a pair of shoes, and a wallet, went home to do more chores and pack and finished with a nice bath

Israel

  • 14 (mercredi): Flight to Israel and sat next to Liz, watched the Israeli film Working Woman, just listened to Goodnight n Go on repeat mostly
  • 15 (jeudi): Landed in Israel, bus to the hotel in Jerusalem, explored part of downtown Jerusalem and suburban areas on my own for the rest of the night
  • 16 (vendredi): First Israeli buffet breakfast, Menachem Begin Heritage Centre presentation, tour of Yemin Moshe and Rechavia neighbourhoods, saw the Prime Minister's official residence, toured the Haredi-inhabited Mea Shearim neighbourhood, saw many beautiful blue hydrangeas and butterflies, music festival at first railway station in Jerusalem, Shabbat dinner, visit at the Old City and Waiting Wall
  • 17 (samedi): Guided tour of the Old City of Jerusalem and outskirts, had first Israeli hummus, knafe, and Arabic coffee, visited Wailing Wall and wished for many things, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Cenacle, Via Dolorosa, Austrian Hospice, Malachi's family home, Church of All Nations, among others
  • 18 (dimanche): Israeli gov and politics lecture, Yad Vashem, Bible Lands Museum, went to Sacher Park and the Monastery of the Cross
  • 19 (lundi): Lecture at Israeli Democracy Institute, Israeli Supreme Court, Israel Museum and talked to Malachi about Israel and Canada, went to Yoel Moshe Solomon Street and saw umbrella project and met Yehuda, sound and light show at David Citadel Museum
  • 20 (mardi): Lecture and group project at Hebrew University-Mount Scopus, deciding to do paper on applicability of semi-open list proportional representation electoral system with multi-member constituencies for both Israel and Canada, tour of the campus and saw where Albert Einstein gave his lecture on the theory of relativity, met with Amiram, who lowkey inspired me to go for nuclear physics
  • 21 (mercredi): Started talking to Oner, went to Masada, Qumran, floating on and putting on mud at the Dead Sea, last night in Jerusalem and visited the old market area
  • 22 (jeudi): Went to Jordan Valley to Old Gosher/Kibbutz Gesher, saw Jordan and ISR-JOR border, went to a mall strip for lunch and talked to Revital about Canada and Israel, Kolshofar factory, rafting at Jordan River, arrived in Tiberias, jeep tour nearby and had Arabic coffee and snacks
  • 23 (vendredi): Went to Safed/Tsfat to visit synagogue and artist's colony, visited Golan Heights and saw Syria, Druze pita with labneh, pool evening at Prima Galil
  • 24 (samedi)- Rosh Hanikra and grottoes in the cave, Keshet Cave, Lebanese border, Yemeni lunch (jachnun) at kibbutz Gesher Haziv, Haifa (Bahai gardens and Mt. Carmel), Caesarea, classmate's kibbutz (Gan Shmuel) Mediterranean coast, arrived in Tel Aviv, and visited the beach
  • 25 (dimanche): Last lecture, Yitzhak Rabin Centre, Rabin square, Jaffa (had "American broasted chicken"), farewell to our tour guide Moshe, beach again
  • 26 (lundi): Heseg House, presentations, explored the city, Oren brought me to a secluded beach, had a fun time, and watched the beautiful starry night sky; his car broke down and everyone came to help him
  • 27 (mardi): flight back to Canada and arrived home
