The sound of knuckles rapping against the metal frame of the doorway echoed slightly through the hollow walls of the ship.

“You probably heard the door open, but I thought I would knock anyways. You know, courtesy and all.”

It was a bit strange to go consulting the asari after the events of the previous years, Shepard’s death and resurrection as well as the sudden-yet-not-sudden onslaught of the Reapers-here-to-kill-everything and all. Oh, and can’t forget his own almost death on Mars, she was there for that too, wasn’t she?

In all technicalities, Kaidan and Liara had been through so much together, yet he’d never felt more distant from someone. Now was a better time than any to make up for that, he thought. The Normandy was docked on the Citadel, and everyone had momentary shore leave anyways.

“I know the end of the galaxy isn’t really the time for leisure, but everyone needs a break.” He stretched, hand rubbing the nape of his neck, “Want to get some coffee? Maybe we could catch up.”
