- Michael Franti and Spearhead, opened by Blue King Brown (Forum Theatre, Melbourne, September 2006): Nothing like a barefooted socialist pacifist with funky hiphop/soul/reggae to get you going!
- Bluesfest (Red Devil Park, Byron Bay, NSW, April 2007): Heaps of music! Blues, rock, funk, ska, reggae, hiphop, latin, rap, punk, irish, bluegrass, soul, country! Opened my eyes to a whole lot of new artists and sounds; as well as well-known artists that were fantastic to see live. The experience was more than just the music and the feel was fantastic-- bit of second hand marijuana?
- Jet, opened by the Checks (Palais Theatre, St Kilda, Melbourne, May 2007): Nice music, not my cup of tea but not objectionable either.
- Muse, opened by the Checks (Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne, November 2007): WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUSE! Loved the showmanship, the visuals, the loudness, the electric grand piano, singing along in falsetto until my voice died, the feel of dozens of thousands of people in a stadium focused on the same amazing thing you were!
- Cat Empire, opened by Ash Grunwald, The Beautiful Girls and Blue King Brown (Sidney Myer Music Bowl, Melbourne, February 2008): First two opening acts okay but nothing special. Loved Blue King Brown (fourth time I'd seen them!), Cat Empire were fantastic!! Fantastic way to party away the last day of the summer holidays. Improvisation, dancing, beats, keys, Harry's voice!
- The Conglomerate (Bennett's Lane, Melbourne, March 2008): Harry's voice! Keyboard mashing, Ollie's hair and posture, familiar melodies, ridiculous love song set in Mordor. Pity I wasn't paying attention to the music...
- Bennett's Lane Big Band (Bennett's Lane, Melbourne, July 2008): Loved the drummer! Great setting, really good to get close to musicians who really enjoyed what they do and are creative about it. So unlike a lot of musicians today. There's nothing like live jazz.
