• villains that genuinely care about each other
  • conflict where both sides are morally ambiguous
  • the plot/tone suddenly taking a drastic dark turn
  • good monster design
  • corruption arcs
  • redemption arcs
  • twist villains but specifically the kind that were earnestly on the protagonist's side (or neutral) until something caused them to change their mind
  • plotlines that are just "hey wouldn't it be super messed up if this happened?"
  • the same scene but from different characters' completely different perspectives
  • story is set in the aftermath of some key past event, but we don't get to see the details of what exactly went down until we're well into the plot

the metamorphosis, franz kafka (★★★★☆)

  • read as part of work book club, but it was my recommendation
  • took me a morning & afternoon to read, went by very quickly. poignant, more disturbing than i expected.

bunny, mona awad (★★★★☆)

  • meaningful because the day on which i bought it was one of the most beautiful days of my life so far
  • resonated with me, somehow. like it's insane but i get what she's feeling. fun to read, too.

revival, stephen king

  • next to read

( bold = priority / most excited for)

mushi-shi

  • on S1E15. nice to watch with friends to unwind

arcane

  • on S1E3 but honestly need to start over because i was drunk when i watched it. i think it's very good? i think?

boku no hero academia

  • on S1E11. i feel like i'm not in the right age group to really enjoy & connect with it, but i admire the character design. i heard it gets darker and more intense as the story progresses, though, so i want to stick around for that

moral orel

  • not started
  • seems like it would have a similar energy...

BoJack Horseman (★★★★★)

  • y'all it might be the best thing i've ever seen. extremely sad that it's over because it was so unique... nothing will be like that again.
  • didn't make me cry, but made me laugh out loud at times, made me stare in silence at the wall and contemplate my life for minutes on end at other times
  • i cannot watch another renowned show directly after this, i need to clear my head lmao
  • recommended for: any adults honestly. watch it. but especially if you like your comedy & tragedy seamlessly entwined into one work of art(for example fleabag does this as well).

BEASTARS (★★★★☆)

  • season 2 was my favourite. season 3... left me wanting to read the manga
  • the worldbuilding is fantastic, and there...
