  • Try to eat locally as much as possible.
  • Make ashtrays with a butter dish and tin foil.
  • Wrap Christmas/birthday presents in old grocery bags, magazines pages, newspaper or scarves.
  • Drink from a reusable water bottle.
  • Give baked goods as Christmas/birthday gifts.
  • Give cookie/bread mixes with baking instructions as gifts.
  • Purchase clothing from second hand stores.
  • Walk, ride my bicycle, or take public transportation whenever possible.
  • Minimize the length of my showers (5 minutes or less).
  • Recycle as much as possible.
  • Use recycled paper and envelopes.
  • Instead of using the heater, turn off the thermostat and bundle up in sweaters, hats and scarves to conserve energy.
  • Unplug power strips, power cords and chargers when not in use.
  • Check out books from the public library or buy used books from Powell's or Goodwill. Borrow and share books as well.
  • Make my own Christmas and birthday cards.
  • Bring my own reusable bags to the grocery store and Farmer's market.
  • Use baking soda, vinegar and other organic cleaning products.
  • Limit how many magazines and newspapers I buy.
  • Reuse boxes, containers, bottles (decorate them with markers and paint or turn them into a craft project).
  • Use cloth napkins multiple times before cleaning.
  • Make your own fair trade organic coffee at home.
  • Only run the dishwasher when it is completely full.
  • Don't leave faucets running when not in use.
  • Quit smoking.
  • Don't make unnecessary or rash purchases and carefully consider whether or not something's truly a neccessity before buying it.
  • Take a walk, plant a tree, or do both!
  • Don't leave lamps or other lights on unnecessarily.
  • Grow your own herbs or vegetables in a home garden.
  • Start a compost bin to make your own fertilizer with.
  • Use compact fluorescent lightbulbs.
