- I've still yet to finish reading "Anna Karenina." I feel like I've hit some "reading block," and there's no excuse for this.
- All of a sudden, I find myself listening to alot of Jens Lekman and Joy Division. I'm not sure what's caused this exactly--but I find it very warm and comforting, like nestling in the crook of an arm. (Right now being February 2nd, 2010 at 9:36 PM.)
- Occasionally it occurs to me that I really like who I am, in like a really nice big boost of self-esteem sort of way. It feels like one of those times recently.
- I'm listening to the song "Red Moon" by The Walkmen right now, for the first time in my life, and I was just thinking that this song is pretty mind-crushingly good.
- This week I'd like to focus on 1) completely finishing my St. John's application, 2) finishing reading Anna Karenina and, 3) learning more about postmodernity, deconstructivism and The Genealogy of Morals.
- For my birthday, my dear father said I could get any four DVDs from The Criterion Collection that I want. Translation: THIS WAS THE PERFECT GIVE FOR ME. As a result of my father's prodding, I ended up buying six movies instead; "Ali: Fear Eats the Soul," "Short Cuts," "Brief Encounter," "Written On the Wind," "The Red Shoes" and "Wings of Desire" on blu-ray.
- Focus on listening to just five CDs this week very closely:
- The Walkmen - You & Me
- High Places - High Places
- Nico Muhly - Mothertongue
- Spoon - Transference
- Beach House - Teen Dream
- Sigur Rós - Takk
- Recently my dad and I watched this great documentary on Jerry Valley and The Z Channel, and it sort of reinvigorated my desire to get into one of my very serious, continual, theme-inspired movie-watching streaks. This has resulted in driving me towards renting the following movies as soon as humanly possible:
- Rashomon
- La Notte
- Throne of Blood
- Heaven's Gate
- Fitzcarraldo
- Imitation of Life
- Ride the High Country
- The Important Thing Is To Love
- Once Upon A Time In America
- Turkish Delight
