  • Recently, I've remembered just how much I love fruit smoothies: a whole fucking lot. Admittedly, my current fixation seems to be the tropical, particularly frozen banana, yogurt, ginger and lime.
  • It occurred to me, watching "Raising Arizona" on television while privileged, at 9:11 PM on the night of February 11th 2010, that the fight scene between Nicolas Cage and John Goodman inside the former individual's trailer, in the last third of the film, is quite possibly one of the most brilliant things ever printed on celluloid.
  • It also occurred to me that, while watching this random movie "Onegin" with Ralph Fiennes, an adaptation of a Pushkin novel, opera is really, really the only music that can be classified as the language of the deepest, farthest reaches of the human soul. (Also, the movie turned out to be painfully good. And I've realized that when I watch movies privileged, I have the distinct advantage of being able to read the characters' internal monologue.)
  • "Colouring of Pigeons" by The Knife is, if I do say so myself, a song of mind-blowing operatic proportions. It is decidedly pleasing.
  • After having watched "Babette's Feast" with my father, I've decided that what I would really like to do is make myself an exceedingly classy, lady dinner for one. This dinner shall be complete with table cloth, candles, wine, and multiple delicious courses (soup, entree, salad, cheese, wine, coffee & brandy etc). Although, seeing as I'm not the biggest fan of decapitated quails, the Calilles en Sarcophage will, most likely, have to be omitted from the evening's menu.
  • Once I finish the book of Chekhov stories I'm currently reading, I'd like to focus on reading some of the (other) Russian authors of the Romantic/realist era, primarily Alexander Pushkin, Nikolai Gogol, and Turgenev. I'd also like to revisit Tolstoy and read "What Is Art?" and "Family Happiness," along with some Henry James and M.F.K. Fisher.
  • Things for hypothetical lady apartment/NYU Cunt Castle: "arts and crafts night," "movie night," my plant, my styrofoam chicken, Tibetan prayer flags, kombucha, black bear stout, The Toddy iced coffee brewer, classy area rug, lady poncho (x3), incense, lavender oil, a variety of Tazo teas, "being knights of The Cunt Castle and battling against intrusion from the outside world," Doc Marten combat boots, hummus/The Magic Bullet, mason jars, "no coats, no homes" poster, focusing on different albums each week, (i.e. "Teen Dream" by Beach House, "Shallow Graves" by The Tallest Man On Earth, etc).
  • Over the course of the upcoming weeks, I would like to do the following things:
    • Go to a Vinyasa class at Yoga In the Pearl.
    • Buy a passable winter jacket from Goodwill or another thrift store.
    • Send/take my high school & college transcripts to PSU.
    • Finish applications for Hampshire and Occidental College.
    • Read part of Artistotle's "Nichomacean Ethics" for St. John's seminar.
    • Buy berries from the farmer's market and make some homemade jam.
    • Send Olivia Birdsall an e-mail about writing me a recommendation.
    • Do some research on foraging around Portland.
    • Set up a lunch with Dr. Goldman to talk about St. John's.
    • Buy Jillian Michaels' 30-Day Shred DVD.
    • Buy some basic provisions for the trip.
    • Try out a new bike trail.
    • STOP FUCKING SMOKING.
      • Cigarettes.
