As God as my witness, I will conquer every Indian restaurant in the city of Portland if it's the last thing I do.
- Bombay Chaat House
- Bombay Cricket Club (A-)
- Though the dining area's somewhat cramped with half the seating on the ground floor and half on a sort of indoor porch above, it makes for a really cool atmosphere. Cricket games are even broadcast on a huge television throughout the dinner run. The food's great and their mango lassis are a must have.
- East India Co. Grill & Bar
- Gandhi's East Indian Cafe
- India Chaat House (A)
- Since the owner's wife set up a competing Chaat House cart next door I've heard rumors that the India Chaat House has gone somewhat downhill in a desperate effort to keep up business, but the last time I ate here a few months ago it was still by far the best Indian food in the city of Portland (the aloo saag is to die for).
- India House (B)
- Above average food, good service, nothing to make it a real standout.
- Indish (A)
- This (practically) brand new restaurant uses only fresh ingredients and nothing packaged or refrigerated (literally, they don't even have a refrigerator). It focuses on real, traditional homemade Indian fare that as a result turns out to be equal parts healthy and delicious. Raj, the owner (and husband of the chef, Laura, who trained originally at Le Cordon Bleu in London), provides some of the best service of any restaurant in Portland. The atmosphere is intimate with leather loveseats, coffee tables and great mood lighting in the evenings. A definite must for any Portland Indian cuisine connoisseur.
- New Delhi Restaurant
- Plainfield Mayur's (B)
- Good food all around, but the sterile atmosphere and downright creepy service knocks it down a few pegs.
- Swagaat Indian Cuisine (A-)
- Nice atmosphere, really attentive service and great channa masala.
- Tandoor Indian Kitchen (B+)
- Best aloo gobi in the city of Portland.
- Vindahlo (B)
- Great atmosphere with high ceilings and lots of windows. Food was good, but not great, and the vegetarian options were pathetically meager.
